He Fights [Cantor]
Mason Conservative ^ | August 5, 2008 | Chris

There are a lot of reasons to support Eric Cantor for VP. There's the usual lines: he raises money, he's young, he's Jewish, etc etc etc. But the real reason I support Eric Cantor is that he fights. The arguments for and against are what they are, but Eric Cantor has been one of the very few members of Congress who has consistently battled the Democrat Congress at every stage and in every capacity he can. He fights the good fight in the trenches, in the House of Representatives where America's Mother-in-Law rules.

But more than simply throwing hands, Cantor works just as hard to craft the GOP message, and his message is one that not enough of our candidates are embracing. A promotion to VP would allow John McCain to elbow room in Congress where Cantor can get to work with Republicans setting strategy. Riley, Shaun, and J.R. all have weighed in on Cantor for Veep.

Today I saw that some of the wagging tongues out there don't think much of a Cantor run with McCain, but JR takes care of that problem with this missive that nails it:

Cantor was elected to the House of Delegates in Virginia in 1991. Barrack Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996, five years later.

Cantor was elected to US Congress in 2000, and has subsequently been re-elected in 2002, 2004, and 2006. Obama was elected to the US Senate in 2004, and has never faced re-election.

But in many ways, we are looking for the wrong thing in a running-mate. Republicans this year, and I've been guilty of it, have begun to get swallowed in the politics of personality - looking for someone to fix one problem or another. But what we need is a team with a vision that can fight. McCain has a vision for the world, and Cantor has a vision for the Republican Party that right now seem to wed quite happily now. Cantor brings the Republicans vision and fight; something that is more important than trying to triangulate women, minorities, older voters, younger voters, and however else pundits want to slice and dice the electorate. We win when we have a message. The message unites the party, and draws voters to our candidates. Instead of trying to play to parts of the electorate through Democrat-style insincere gestures, simply put two guys out there the party and the country can believe in.

THAT is what Eric Cantor brings to the ticket.

I agree completely. We desperately need fighters in the Republican Party. I will not give them anymore money until I start to see the gloves come off.

After going through 7 generals of the Army of the Potomac, that is exactly what Lincoln said about Grant...

Loved it!

Anyway, Cantor sounds good.

Part of your World from The Little Mermaid

Part of My Vote

I wanna vote for Eric Cantor
Women are saying he’s real hott, you see
But some around here are - What’s that word again?
Starts with a B

They flip and they flop, they are liberal losers,
Conservative values required for winning
Voting and using my - what’s that word again?
Conscience

Are they pro-troops? Are they pro-US ?
Does the 2nd Amendment cause them to fuss?
Eric, you see -
I hope you will be
Part of my vote

What would I give if I vote for a real leader?
What would I pay to spend the time voting my heart?
Bet’cha if they could understand
The GOP would change agendas
We’re bright voters sick of RINOs
Ready to vote

And ready to know how the candidates feel
Ask ‘em my questions and get some answers
What was your ideas on this ten years ago ?

If I dont know how can I vote ?
If they’re not pro-life they will not float
For the Vee Pee
Eric, please be
Part of my vote

Cordially,

Nana

Thanks for these posts on Cantor. I feel I’ve been educated.

I spoke my piece on the other thread. No question that he looks good. He’s not well known, but he’s experienced and has shown leadership potential. If he were the VP choice I’d feel much better about voting for McCain. First, because it would show that McCain was finallyh doing something to reach out to the base, and second because he’d clearly be a good guy to give exposure to for future possibilities.

How many real conservatives do we have out there with a realistic chance of one day running for president? Not a whole lot.

My message to the President (copy to CongressCritters)

Dear Mr. President,

You are being buffaloed by a woman with no concept of her duties into failing to do YOUR duty. Your “new tone” has been a total failure, no matter your good intentions and dogged efforts to make it work. Your enemies - decidedly not “adversaries” or “opponents”, both of which imply a measure of fairness and sportsmanship - have interpreted your forbearance as ignorance and your civility as weakness. They have used both as opportunities to aggrandize themselves and diminish you, your principles, your party, and your colleagues. Continuing this folly is hazardous to our Country, and YOU must gather the personal courage to deal with the challenges you have ignored to this point.

IMMEDIATELY convene both houses of Congress to address the specific issue of domestic energy production.

DEMAND - publicly, loudly, and repeatedly - that both bodies directly address this issue, alone, immediately, and directly.

INFORM them that if they fail to act, and resume their obfuscation and delaying tactics, that you will keep them in session until their replacements convene on inauguration day, no matter how many quorum calls and new Presidential calls to convene are required for the purpose. Tell your Congressional “leadership” that the convenient fictions of gentlemanly filibuster and and pro forma argumentation to empty chambers must be put aside while the PEOPLE’s business is handled to THEIR satisfaction, not the convenience of the poseurs in charge. What are they going to do - attempt to impeach you for performing your Constitutional duties? Question your intelligence, sanity, or courage? Call you names? Mr. President, you have already demonstrated that you absorb such abuse far beyond any reasonable level. Make it be for action, not inaction!

Fighters are what we desperately need RIGHT NOW, and have been sorely lacking in the GOP for at least ten years.

GO CANTOR!
