Lee Stranahan has posted what is currently the most popular story at the HUffington POst questioning why liberals have been avoiding the John Edwards scandal story. Although a liberal himself, Stranahan has gone off the leftwing reservation to post this THREAD titled, "Say It Ain't So, John -- Why Progressives Need To Get Out In Front Of The John Edwards Affair Rumors." Stranahan has made a long but very fascinating post on this topic. I'll post only an excerpt of it but I recommend that everybody read the entire post. What is interesting is the HUffie reaction to Stranahan's apt observations. So let us now watch the HUffies confront the John Edwards scandal in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, still hearing Benny Hill Yakety Sax music in his head, is in the [brackets]:

[They haven't gotten out in front of this scandal. Mostly they, like their MSM allies, continue to bury their heads in the sand.]
The truth is that I believe anyone who looks into the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter affair story will see that Edwards has, at best, acted in a very suspicious manner for over a year now. When the Larry Craig story was breaking, I didn't buy his particular line of bullshit and I don't buy Edwards's either after I've spent the last couple of days Googling with my wife. (That's not as dirty as it sounds.) At first, I was skeptical of the National Enquirer story catching Edwards leaving the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel at 2:45am because there were no pictures and the tabloids aren't reliable. Now it turns out that Edwards was at the hotel, so was Ms. Hunter, and that he when he saw reporters he hid in the bathroom until security guards came and got him.

Update: Seems like I've touched a third rail here. I cross-posted this piece at Daily Kos and it got over 400 comments. Unfortunately, a large number of the comments were nothing but insults. One person suggested seriously that all the videos I've made lampooning Republicans (including my Mike Huckabee video that Kos himself called the 'best political parody of 2007) were just a ruse so I could weasel my way into the progressive blogosphere, apparently in anticipation of John Edwards being caught at hotel.

I thought he was gay. I am relieved he isn't and we all sit down once in a while on the bench of lust and happyness. Having said that, it would have been nice for him to be the knight in shining armore protecting ailing Brunhilde. But since we live in 2008 and not in the renosance area, he just forgot himself one night. Now he has a child and guess what he can afford it. It is not easy to see your partner detoriating and beeing eaten up with cancer and knowing the end is near sooner or later. So give pretty boy some slack we don't need him for president anyhow. There was always a phony hue around him anyhow.

If this story is true, I feel terrible for Mrs. Edwards. She is afterall suffering from terminal cancer. Also I'm rather shocked because Edwards appeared so squeaky clean while running for the presidential nomination. Edwards needs to come forward and tell the truth. Otherwise the press will tell the story for him.

So where are Edwards followers on this if it is true.....It is OK for him to lie to his sick soul mate wife , but he will be honest with me on all other issues.....naivety pure and simple.

The reason you deserve a lot of the criticism you are getting is that what you write has consequences. As about a thousand people have reiterated here and on Kos, John Edwards is the only major national politician reminding people that too many of our citizens are unacceptably poor. He also has two young children and a dying wife. I think a responsible human being chooses to raise the bar for such a person before repeating terrible charges against him. Otherwise you're no better than Mickey Kaus.
[Oh, and John Edwards just cancelled his scholarship program because it won't help his poltitical career any more.]
The reason that it really doesn't matter is the fact that John Edwards was a past Senator, and a past VP candidate, and a past Presidential candidate. The key word is "PAST" by the skin of his teeth he is "PAST" of any thing "official."

Your activities get sleezier by the moment. All of us living in LA know that the last place anyone would rendevous is the hotel in question! That would be the last place on earth anyone seeking privacy would meet! The Papparazzi are like cockroaches there. Stranahan, this is nothing but another effort to slime the good and decent John Edwards. Have you ever given thought to whether you really want to live your life this way? Or you might want to consider whether this kind of garbage serves anything but filth.

ALSO Has anyone checked to see if an actual criminal report was filed with the police as said or is everyone taking the NE's word?

I was in the checkout line at our local Walgreens today and saw a tabloid (the Globe) with Obama’s picture and the teasing headline: Obama Love Child Scandal. Of course, I had to read the article.
They’re saying the following:
1) There’s a highly-qualified team looking for dirt on Obama, offering a $1 reward (ex-CIA or whatever)
2) The Globe lays this at the feet of “right-wing conservatives” who are “desperate” to bring Obama down
3) The article doesn’t confirm that there has actually been any proof of a love child. IOW, it’s a bunch of blather about nothing.
4) The article does mention that Robert Novak wrote a few months ago that the Hillary! camp inferred that they had dirt on Obama, and Obama told her to put up or shut up.
5) The article also mentions that the dirt diggers are looking in Hawaii, where Obama grew up, but that people there are keeping mum because Obama’s people have told them to zip their lips
So if the Globe prints all of this drivel when there are only allegations, no proof, is it because:
1) It’s a tabloid, sucker. That’s what they do. (?)
2) A planted story, trying to make Obama out to be the victim of vicious right-wing conservatives (?)
It never seemed to occur to the writers that Hillary! has ample motive to have people skulking around digging up dirt, because if she can derail the Messiah this time, that leave 2012 open for her to try atain. And how conveeeeeenient to have “right-wing conservatives” to blame for her own cloak-and-dagger escapade.
Oh, crap - $1 reward is supposed to be $1 MILLION. Geez
I guess it never occurred to this idiot that if Edwards had cared enough about his dying wife and 2 young children he would've kept it in his pants. Given his family situation he had NO business diddling around with some bimbo. One would want to think he'd want to spend every possible moment he could with his wife...were I in his shoes, I'd be trying to squeeze a lifetime into whatever time I have left with my wife.
