Well done, GWB! The Dems want to stall a decision on drilling until after the election. Bush’s action will force it to remain as a campaign issue.
Some weeks ago Pelosi was blaming the President and putting the ban on his lap. Well, let’s see their move next, they no longer use that excuse.
About freakin’ time.
Gutsy move!
I’ve got to hand it to W.
He’s refusing to be lame.
Now if only he’d call Congress into an emergency session and hold them there 24/7 until they solve this crisis by removing drilling restrictions and lowering the barriers to refinery expansion. THAT would be leadership.
Get off your butt Pelosi!....Drill now or hit the highway with your wacko environmentalists!....
Too bad we had to wait until a few months before the election for this.
BTW, why did your dad issue the first EO?
Why did you sign to extend it until 2012 before you decided to cancel the order?
For a “lame” duck ol’GWB smacks them Democrats around pretty good.
I love when the Dems are beaten at their game of blame everyone else! Smack down - swwweeeeeeeet!
NICE G W. I love how he calls out the Democrat Congress rather than just saying Congress as he often does.
How much is oil down today?
Congress will now have an opportunity to go into negative approval numbers.
Congress at 9% Approval
The Democrat controlled Congress has made history.
From Rasmussen Reports:
The percentage of voters who give Congress good or excellent ratings has fallen to single digits for the first time in Rasmussen Reports tracking history. This month, just 9% say Congress is doing a good or excellent job. Most voters (52%) say Congress is doing a poor job, which ties the record high in that dubious category.
...The percentage of Democrats who give Congress positive ratings fell from 17% last month to 13% this month. The number of Democrats who give Congress a poor rating remained unchanged. Among Republicans, 8% give Congress good or excellent ratings, up just a point from last month. Sixty-five percent (65%) of GOP voters say Congress is doing a poor job, down a single point from last month.
Voters not affiliated with either party are the most critical of Congressional performance. Just 3% of those voters give Congress positive ratings, down from 6% last month. Sixty-three percent (63%) believe Congress is doing a poor job, up from 57% last month.
These numbers are stunning.
Among independents, just 3% give Congress positive ratings. THREE PERCENT!
They’ll probably let their buddies, the environuts, file lawsuits against Bush’s executive order and get them off the hook!
Go George Go! To bad you waited until it became a crisis.
“9%-Nancy” and “Whining Harry” are busily engaged in floating trial ballon responses to focus groups as we post.
When is legislature going to be passed to prevent crude oil commodity trading from manipulating the law of supply and demand regards crude oil?
In short, there are no curbs to prevent commodity traders from buying huge amounts of crude oil WITHOUT TAKING DELIVERY and thus preventing the supply from being replenished. The traders are CREATING a shortage and at the same time, benefiting from the rise in cost.

The PUMP Act — Prevent Unfair Manipulation of Prices.
Under the current model, traders can buy oil and natural gas even though they dont have to deliver the product to consumers. Other commodities (like corn, for example) require taking delivery on a percent of the purchase thereby keeping the supply open and flowing. Not so with crude oil — they dont have to move any product. The traders own it, but the product stays in place, and clogs up the supply. In other words, the movement of crude oil comes to a stand-still. In simple terms, production stops, the pipes are full, and prices soar. Thats exactly what is happening.
Our free enterprise system is balanced by the law of supply and demand. The price of crude is being is manipulated, not by supply and demand, but by hoarding by commodity brokers.
Why isnt anyone talking about this?
Nice tactical, and hopefuly strategic move. This will give the GOP an opportunity to pound on it.
"It is now up to the Democrats to lift the final barrier to energy independence. Those cupcakes won't do it, and they'll pay for it in November."
The Congressional ban on offshore oil drilling expires at the end of September, unless extended by *both* Congress and President Bush.
