So activist judges making law based on their own personal whims from the bench doesn’t only happen in the USA?
“The spotlight now turns to Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach. He was recently given an avalanched-sized majority in the Legislature on the strength of, among other things, the vow to stand up for Alberta. He has vowed to stare down any interference in our province, be they economic or cultural, from Ottawa and the Eastern socialist horde.”
I wonder what the options might be, simply defy the ruling?
All the Alberta Provicial Parliament needs to do is invoke the notwithstanding clause to override the ruling.
The question is, will Stelmach do that?
That’s the real question. Funny thing about that little clause Lougheed fought so hard for - we’ve never really used it before.
Now would be the time.
