Could this be the reason Michelle Obama felt like a “visitor” at Princeton?

Black guilt?

I think this overstates the case against Michelle's writing skills.

Really? Let's have a look at the sentence in question:

"By actually working with the Black lower class or within their communities as a result of their ideologies, a separationist may better understand the desparation of their situation and feel more hopeless about a resolution as opposed to an integrationist who is ignorant to their plight."

Sister Theresa would have bled my (or any other male sophomore's) knuckles white for this sentence in high school -- and you think this is an acceptable sentence in a baccalaureate thesis at a putatively elite university?

This writing is a disgrace and any white or Asian student denied acceptance at Princeton considering a vote for Obama ought to reflect on the injustice of being a twenty-first century victim of the new Jim Crow.

[... If Ivy League schools are admitting students
who are this illiterate, color me unimpressed...]

In order to avoid stating the obvious, I’ll just
say that... ignorance is indeed our worst enemy.

Of course it is unacceptable, but I doubt that it is particularly unusual. I am just guessing, but I suspect that even at Ivy League universities, students near the bottom of the class write poorly.

I have a math professor friend who teaches at the local state university, who recently complained to me about his students who never learned the multiplication table. He said that they cannot multiply two single digit numbers in their heads. He was serious.

A few years ago, a local (white) university student who majored in English asked me to correct the typos in her term paper. She was reputedly a top student, but oh, what a painful paper. Typos were the least of its problems. I rewrote the first couple of pages as an example of what I hoped she would do with the remainder. I got the impression that no one had ever edited one of her papers before. The experience was embarrassing for both of us.

Again, I am just guessing, but I doubt that Michelle Obama was such an extraordinarily bad student that she deserved some sort of prize. Things get ugly at the bottom of the class.

If an English professor wants to disagree with me, I will happily change my mind.

Ah, the soft bigotry of low expectations.

I wonder what Thomas Sowell would think of this paper?

I taught undergrads in the 1970s and 1980s, and I taught Physics, not English. Things were sliding downhill then, which, if I'm not mistaken, would have been the time frame MO attended Princeton; I've no doubt they've slid further still and your friend's take is accurate. But a state university in 2008 is not Princeton in the 1980s. This is the kind of sentence my (poorer) engineering students might have turned in. But neither hard science nor engineering was MO's major. Majoring in a soft discipline, she would've been expected to write often.

Persist in your opinion if you like, but in my academic experience during this time period, D'Souza is much closer to the truth than you.

Not only that, but the fact remains that she *didn’t* belong at Princeton-—not because of the color of her skin, but because the quality of her intellect did not meet Princeton’s true admission standards and true day-to-day academic standards.

Of course a person is likely to feel alienated at an institution at which, from the get-go, they were ill-equipped intellectually to compete. Mrs. Obambi has stated over and over again that she was admitted to Princeton even though she didn’t have the scores-—that is, even though she did not meet the standard for admission that most other students met.

As I’ve said before, if I were somehow admitted to the NFL despite not being able to play to league standards, admission would in no way convey upon me the ability and skills to truly play football to NFL standards on the field. Just the way it is.

Believe it or not, Mrs. Obambi was awarded some sort of departmental “honors” for this piece of embarrassing tripe.

Of course it is. Every human being is acutely aware when in a situation in which he cannot compete.

Stooping this low? This semi-literate garbage was counted as a thesis at what should be one of OUR country’s greatest and most elite universities.

That bothers me.

And I think it should be exposed.

Remember, they didn't just admit her, they gave her a degree!

I used to work with someone very much like Michelle. She had a racial chip on her shoulder, and spent most of her time working on “black issues”, rather than doing her actual job, which she couldn’t do anyway.

It is the tale of an officer so incompetent that he was promoted out of each billet so he would then be somebody else's problem.

This reminds me of one of the owners of a business I worked in. He was in the Michigan plant. They sent him to take over the totally self-regulating Southern plant. He was an absolute pain in the butt. At the Christmas party, I talked to the wife of the former owner who by then was running the whole operation. She told me that they had told the guy they really needed him to manage the Southern operation because it was the only way they could get rid of him. The former owner, divorced and head of another plant in another state doing the same kind of work, said that selling that guy part of the company was the worst decision he had ever made, but he was desperate for money at the time and this guy, who was a salesman for them, had the cash. As a result of his incredibly inept management and people skills, my brother went out on his own, then another guy, then a third guy, and finally I did, too. I made a whole lot more money as an independent contracter, though I also worked many more hours. But the absence of the officiousness and arrogance of the guy was refreshing.

I never thought that I would see a spouse of a presidential candidate who was more of a radical, narcissistic, arrogant, hubristic, self-entitled, and maddening solipsist than Hilary Clinton. To the nation’s dismay, I think we have found her in Michelle Obama. She is the loose cannon Benito Mussolini face of liberal fascism that Barack Hussein Obama is so careful to hide. Barack Obama is more practiced at keeping the mask up. But in the liberal Hyde Park ghetto that she lives in Chicago, attending cocktail parties with her coterie of liberal U of C academics, Black South Side DemonRat pols, public sector sinecures, NGO flacks and liberal Sun Times columnists, EVERBODY she knows thinks and feels this way.

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama’s resentments toward her country and its citizens were undoubtedly nourished by the effect that her set-aside affirmative action appointment to Princeton had on her. It would appear that she was unable to reconcile her black cultural nationalist/separatist philosophy with her tenure at Princeton, a place for which she was wholly unsuited by dint of preparation and talent, if her poorly written senior thesis is any indication. Rather than appreciating the AA slack cut her by the lib profs, she chose to lash out at what she saw as condescension and maybe some pity from them. She felt that she didn’t belong and she probably didn’t, but her racial sensitivity antenna read racism and bigotry rather that contemptuous pity. Her artificially inflated ego couldn’t stand that and she has mutated an enormous shoulder chip ever since.

Now we can only hope that the Barack He who must not be middle named Obama campaign does not muzzle her and deprive the GOP of a priceless asset. Bur from what I hear that is a dangerous proposition for any worker in that campaign. She appears to be as unmanageable and ornery as the Hildabeast.

“Semi-Literate Michelle Obama Got By On Affirmative Action”

This goes very well with my tagline re her untouchable affirmative action Potus candidate.

I remember reading D’Souza’s very good book on 60s Liberalism brought to you by our college campuses called Illiberal Education. I recommend for many in America to read it. It is very long but very good and illustrates the pathology of Liberal diversity and of Liberal thinking on college campuses(especially in the late 80s, early 90s) and challenges that as being Illiberal.
