Man Will Spend 300 Days Alone On Pacific Island

French explorer and adventurer Xavier Rosset is about to embark on a 300 day trip to live alone on a remote tropical island in the South Pacific. His adventures will be filmed and used for a 52 minute documentary.

Xavier’s only luggage will be a Swiss army knife, machete video camera and a solar panel for charging the camera. He will spend 10 months alone on an island to develop another way of life through an exciting adventure, a return to the elemental sources. Xavier will survive alone on an island without human interference and without polluting emissions.

The ambition of this documentary is to make a reflection on our lifestyle, our current system and our relationship to nature. And the most important thing is to put the dream and emotion at the heart of adventure natural.

He will find timber to build a shelter, feed on the rudimentary fishing, plants and the harvesting of rainwater to survive.

The philosophy of this adventure is quite different than the existing issues which are aimed competition and the elimination of participants through a system of testing and votes. The primary motivation of this documentary is to draw attention to our planet, on our perception of the world around us and different ways to preserve the future.

Most men have forgotten how to live with nature because we have so far arranged the world according to our needs and desires that these bases, so important, have disappeared.

THE DOCUMENTARY

This 52-minute film will trace the life of a man returning to the sources for 10 months without any human interference, learning to adapt to medium term to its new environment, feeding on wildlife, flora and the local fishing.

The documentary will be mainly a parallel relationship between man, nature and the preservation of our environment.

This documentary will be seen on screens in spring 2009.

FILMING

Filming will be done entirely by Xavier who has good experience in video production. To bring up images of qualities, he will find tips to make every single plan reporting, dynamic and growing. The camera will be recharged with a battery powered by a photovoltaic panel.

DESTINATION AND DEPARTURE DATE

Several destinations were selected for the documentary, and with advice from Cheyenne Morrison the Kingdom of Tonga was finally selected as the destination for the filming.

August 8, 2007 Xavier visited Tonga, and with advice from the Tourism department selected the island for his adventure.

Tofua Island, a volcanic island lost in the middle of the Pacific. This will be the destination of Xavier for this adventure story.

On July 8, 2007, the Government of Tonga islands in the Pacific has adopted the idea of this documentary and greatly facilitates obtaining a visa and long-term authorizations shooting.

The destination is interesting because Tonga 2 volcanic islands would lend themselves well to this experience. They are isolated, with the vegetation, terrain and no human presence.

UPDATE

So no fire?

That seems odd.

I think he will come to realize that "survival living" isn't as easy as one might think.

I am interested in this type of thing, but I fear that the entire thing is going to be a treatise on being “green”.

I would rather see a redux of the guy who got lost in the Australian wilderness through an accident. I have forgotten the name of the book though.

how much do you think he would charge to take algore with him ?

You'd need a much bigger island to feed AlGore for 10 months. Something the size of, say, Ireland.

"He will find timber to build a shelter, feed on the rudimentary fishing, plants and the harvesting of rainwater to survive."

Such rapaciousness! Deforestation, rape of the fisheries, interference with the hydrosphere...

I just recently saw that movie for the first time, and predicted, from the start, that when he finally went back to civilization to marry his sweetheart, that she had married someone else. That didn’t spoil it for me though, it was a pretty good movie.

The same thing happened to Mary Anne in Rescue from Gilligan’s Island.

What’s he going to do, hold it in? I can’t imaging not going to the bathroom for 300 days.

Soon he will find out just why it is we humans chose to develop technology so as not to have to spend 16 hours a day scrounging for food.

After he’s spent a few weeks working all day looking for food, building shelter, and slapping frantically at his skin all night fighting off bugs, hopefully when he comes back to civilization he will appreciate the fact that it’s worth displacing a few species and chopping down some trees to have a better quality of life.

The end of the film is set for him to look into the camera and say “You can learn more about scurvy and rickets at your local library.”

Don’t worry. He can make a radio from coconut husks, vines, and sea shells like the Professor did.

Many Pacific islands discovered in the past three centuries have disappeared without a trace.

If You ever get the chance, read James Fenimore Coopers
“The Crater”. Early American shippers get stranded on a volcanic isle, they turn it into a paradise, they return home and get their friends and towns people to move out there, the next thing you know they have papers, lawyers,
government, activists, 1820 style, taxes etc, the origional
founders are tossed out, but they return and when they do, there is no island there any more...
Great story.
I remember the main characters agueing about the national debt and weather it would bring down the government and it was all of 92,000 dollars. hahaha.

Cooper is known for the Leatherstocking tales, last of the Mohicans etc, but most of his works were sea tales, and as they were written at the end of the sailing period they are quite accurate and you almost need a tall ship glossary to know what they are doing, I had one so it wasn’t a problem.

Homeward Bound is another great story, young american puts together merchant cargo but gets boarded by the English and
sent to England with a prize crew aboard, He takes back the ship from the Prize crew but it founders and goes down, he is rescued by french privateers and taken prisoner to France, but he steals the french ship and sails back to america with it’s cargo and is successful.
Really gives an idea of American attitudes toward English Impressment, and the idealism of early americans.

I wondered about that, too. On one hand, his island is tropical, so he likely wouldn't need it for warmth.

On the other hand, fire is nice for a lot of things, like cooking food. But if he lives on fish and coconuts, he wouldn't need to cook.

But then again, fire is a nice morale booster, which could be pretty important after ten months alone.

All in all, I think he could live without it where he is, but it would certainly be a lot less pleasant.

Really a shame that Hollywierd can’t take some of these stories that show American idealism and make movies but
I guess it’s “just not done”.
People might accidentally get proud of their heritage.
