The United States Senate rejected a Republican proposal to open one-hundredth of one-percent of the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) for oil exploration. Fifty Democrats were joined by a half-dozen Republican senators in the 56 to 42 vote against the measure.
Preserving the frigid sterility of this wilderness must take precedence over a scheme to feed Americans gluttony for energy, asserted Debbie Dullerd of the Alaska Wilderness League. She characterized the need for fuel as temporary. The human species wont last forever, Dullerd declared. It makes no sense to place its interests ahead of the rest of the planet.
If gasoline costs too much, people can carpool, ride transit or stay home, she continued. Weve raped mother nature long enough. Now, its humanitys turn.

I’m sure Russia would love to have Alaska back.
Strategically, our dependence on foreign oil is an extreme vulnerability. If we continue down the slope of idiocy, we will be so weak, Russia may just help themselves to the oil we could have had.
That’s too bad. They shouldn’t have waited till the Dems owned congress.
