In the days prior to the gigantic earthquake that devastated Sichuan province in China, odd swarms of frogs were seen in the streets of cities in the area, and have subsequently been identified as unusual animal behavior of the type that is thought by some geologists to precede earthquakes. Now it has developed that similar frog appearances have been taking place in Bakersfield,California for about two weeks, and nobody is sure why. Strange swarms of frogs also appeared before the 6.9 Loma Prieta Earthquake in October of 1989.

“Now it has developed that similar frog appearances have been taking place in Bakersfield,California for about two weeks, and nobody is sure why.....”
Oh please! They are just escapees from Calaveras County frog jumping contest. They didn’t want to end up on the frog legs menu....
Yipes...
Calaveras County frog jumping contest frogs are California Red Legged frogs, if you eat one, you’ll go to jail...
...and swarms of gerbils have been seen fleeing San Francisco!!
Hmmmm...might mean the Parkfield/Fort Tejon segment of the San Andreas is about to go again. In 1857 they had an 8.0 quake, and geological evidence suggests there is one about every 150 years. Parkfield isn’t all that close to Bakersfield, but it might be close enough to spook the frogs. ;)
Well, that’s been going on for YEARS.
You don’t know me but you don’t like me,
You say you care less how I feel
How many of you that sit and judge me
Ever (hopped) the streets of Bakersfield?
Maybe we need to view "The Ten Commandments" one more time.
BTW there have been documented rainstorms of fish frogs and other animals. These events have been attributed to cyclonic water events where the animals are swept up into the clouds and then deposited along with the rain downpour. Of course, meteor dust is found in all rain clouds but whose counting! One, two, four.....
Is this the time of year when frogs and toads hatch in those areas?
My hometown is overrun with toads for a day or two every spring but we don’t get too many earthquakes in southern Michigan.
I lived in Monrovia, CA (near Alhambra) in the ‘80s when we had a medium-sized quake.
A few years prior a pet shop burned down and some parrots got loose, bred like fury, and their descendents would sit on the phone lines chattering up a storm all day long.
My wife said that just before the quake, of a sudden, the birds went quiet. She went outside and they were all sitting like decoys - not moving at all. A little while later the quake came and she swore they birds were signalling that one was coming. I believe her.
Aren’t those married hetero gerbils leaving now?
Anybody go by the name “Pharaoh” in Bakersfield?
then explain France
Any Freepers in Bakersfield who would like an eager eye kept on the local earthquake alarms, set up a webcam and I'll patch it through to my HDTV for 24/7 early warning. For a price, of course. She's already cleaned out my small blackberry crop and those little baskets don't come cheap at the local supermarket.
The article does say odd swarms, which would differentiate from the usual migrations or emergings.
Interestingly the ancient Chinese earth quake recording device has frogs which drop balls supposedly in the direction of the earthquake.
