It is really amazing to watch. You can make money on this: whenever politicians or church leaders glom on to a concept, its over. John McCain has fastened on the global warming hoax like a remora. Its not just bad for the economy, for freedom and for the environment, its also incredibly bad timing for Maverick John McCain.
Holman Jenkins points out in the Wall Street Journal:
And yet every journalistic tendril senses that the fuss over warming is about to cool. Global mean temperatures have been flat for a decade. The biofuel folly has chased away any easy belief that we can centrally plan our way out of reliance on fossil fuels. Voters seem more concerned with high gas prices. Even the town criers of global warming acknowledge that we will be stuck adapting to whatever climate comes along.
Its even being acknowledged by the climate hysterics and the troglodytes in the MSM that global warming has been reversed by natural forces and that at least one of the fixes ethanol has been a human and ecological disaster.
To take the stand that McCain has taken just at this time shows a stupidity that is hard to fathom.
Global warming is a hoax meant to cover a reason for further taxation, based on the “carbon footprint”.
This scare tactic, that carbon dioxide is a pollutant, is a total fabrication. Carbon dioxide is plant food, without which young plants cannot grow, nor can the mature plant produce fruit, which is largely composed of sugars, starch and some protein, all of whjich are carbon-based compounds. There is only one way the plant GETS carbon molecules from which to construct all these complex compounds, and that is from the carbon dioxide absorbed through the plant leaves and other plant surfaces. If the carbon dioxide is not IN the air, the plant cannot extract it.
For optimal plant growth, there probably should be about two or three times as much CO2 in the air as we now have.
I know, I have asked myself the same question. I think he sees his base as, democrat moderates, illegal aliens, independents, and enviro whack jobs.
At least this is what he spends his time pandering to.
Wow, my exact sentiments.
Actually, I’m expecting him to come out with his ‘Universal Healthcare Plan’ next. That WILL ice it for me.
I think you are right. Gawd, he makes GWB look like a great speaker. The man just fails to inspire, but then that is impossible when you are selling a message to conservatives that repulses them.
“This state is a solid blue state, and my vote is not going to effect things one iota.”
Ditto with me in Illinois. Even if I voted for McCain in November, he’d still be a couple million votes shy of carrying Illinois.
The real move here is a move towards Nationalizing business’s in the US, as in National Socialism.
I'm in the opposite position: living in NJ, my vote can't possibly help him (when was the last time NJ went for a Republican in the presidential race, or was even close to getting NJ's electoral votes?), and I personally cannot bring myself to vote for him, so I won't.
McCain's full-bore jump onto a brokendown bandwagon was shocking to me, not because of the politics of it but because of the nature of the thinking behind it, shallow and uninformed.
I am ready to support a more able candidate.
“I have never felt more alienated from the guy.”
Well yeah but as a conservative, you are NOT part of his base. His base is illegal aliens, enviro-weenies with names like “cornflake” or some stupid crap and of course the ever sought after, “Hillary Democrat.”
I had reconciled myself holding my nose and voting for McCain, if only because Hillary and Obama are so much worse. But this renewed global warming fanaticism on his part is about all I can stomach, and I'm very close to basically not voting for President in November, period. I'll vote GOP downticket, but McCain is very, very close to losing my vote (again). It won't hurt him much, I live in a pretty GOP safe state at the Presidential level (NC), but at least I'll have a cleaner conscience.
That was my thoughts exactly as he was in my home state of WA yesterday, part of his Save the Planet tour. This state is a solid blue state, and my vote is not going to effect things one iota.
Ditto. I can't vote for "the stupid candidate" of "the stupid party."
Because he wears the Republican label this will suddenly make Democrats against universal healthcare. Anything McCain does the Democrats will come out against it. And anything that goes wrong, and there's going to be a lot of that, will be pinned to the Republicans.
I have mixed emotions about this. The Republican party wants to be the Democrat-lite party rather than a conservative party to reel in the ambilvalent swing voter. Let them go. We can finally start a new conservative party. We should also help the left split the Democrats into the Socialists and outright Communists. We need 4 parties instead of 2 to break things up and allow politicians to speak their true minds and still win an occasional election. Many other countries have more than 2 viable parties. What laws or lack of laws are keeping this from happening here?
Thanks stockpirate, at least I am not the only one that realizes this. Global Warming is all about reducing the economic power of the American middle class. Bringing them down to the the same level as the rest of the world.
“If the carbon dioxide is not IN the air, the plant cannot extract it.”
From the USGS:
“Numerous small earthquakes occurred beneath Mammoth Mountain from May to November 1989. Data collected from monitoring instruments during those months indicated that a small body of magma (molten rock) was rising through a fissure beneath the mountain. In the following year, U.S. Forest Service rangers noticed areas of dead and dying trees on the mountain. After drought and insect infestations were eliminated as causes, a geologic explanation was suspected. USGS scientists then made measurements and discovered that the roots of the trees are being killed by exceptionally high concentrations of CO2 gas in the soil. Today areas of dead and dying trees at Mammoth Mountain total more than 100 acres. The town of Mammoth Lakes, just east of this volcano, has not been affected.”
What causes hot springs to be hot? Contact of water with molten rock. And, what is that stinky smell emitted by some of these hot springs? Hydrogen sulfide. Therefore, my guess would be that the cause of plant demise could be a combination of the heat and toxic hydrogen sulfide release in these geologically active areas. Might the high CO2 concentrations be a result of the plant decay brought on by the former?
McLame’s AGW stance is the last straw for me. Used to be one of the “he’s not as bad as Obama” crowd, but not anymore. McLame and the increasingly leftist GOP can go to H### for all I care. I’ll be staying home this election.
Here in Colorado I got about 6 inches of snow yesterday and it just started snowing again. My elderly liberal neighbor is whining about global warming causing this. She has been whining about global warming causing cold weather and snow all winter. I have been slow to give her the hint that she is supposed to start calling it “climate change” when it gets colder or people might question your intelligence.
