Well the last 36 hours of my life have been, to put it mildly, surreal.
You see I'm a 60 year old guy who has been married twice for a combined total of 27 year. I had two children with each wife. My son with my first wife drowned at a youung age and the psychological damage to his mother was a major factor in the the end of that marriage.
Well to make a long story short my 29 year old daughter from the first marriage called me yesterday. We had not spoken for a longer that average interval, the conversation lasted almost two hours. At that point I said that I had some matters to deal with so we would have to talk again soon. She said ok, but she had something important we needed to talk about...which raised some concerns since during a two hour conversation she hadn't brought this "important" matter up. So I said, no no let's talk about it now.
Well through a convoluted internet set of events, her mother had discovered that someone was looking for her dad and it seemed that he was probably me...
My 29 year old has been in email correspondance with this lady for the last month and finally was satisfied that it was time for me to made aware of the situation.
So, a 7 hour long conversation later I learned that I am the proud father of a 40 years young daugher and the granddad of two hansome young boys ages 10 and 8. My other daughters and my 17 year old son have a new sibling and are aunts and uncle...
I am having a surrealisticly happy Sunday morning...
Wow, that’s wonderful! Your newly found daughter was adopted early on?
Happy Father’s Day!
God Bless you and your family for the happy resolution of a very personal mystery!
I am sorry to hear that.
You have been cheated out of 40 years of your child’s life and 10 & 8 of each of your grandchildrens.
Great story ! What a painless way to get two Grandsons. Enjoy!
But her labor came on suddenly and the secret was out, so she ended up marrying a friend, that marriage lasted 5 years and my daughter thought he was her natural father.
She lost touch with him and then at the age of 14 she decided that she wanted to re-establish contact with him. At this point she was informed that he was not her father but that I was.
She has been searching for me in various ways for 26 years.
You now owe 40 years of cigars.
Glad you took a shock like that so well. Good luck and I am glad you are happy about it rather than depressed!
But to learn that you are the parent of a lovely, happily married mother of two who is doing quite well in every way is not an unpleasant experience.
We live over 1000 miles appart so there are some linguistics that will have to worked out in order to carry on this relationship...but we haven't gotten there yet.
I did speak with my grandsons this morning before the family drove off to see a major league baseball game and that was interesting...pleasantly interesting.
Congratulations! This is a great surprise!
Make the most of it and get to know them all like they are your own, because they are!
Congrats Dad ... and er, unc ... and ummm ... granddad ... and uhhh aunt too? .. /8^)
My newly discovered oldest daughter is slightly older than my youngest brother.
So she is older than one of her uncles...somewhat rare I would guess.
I am happy for you. I guess it is best to start out slow.
It is also good that this daughter of yours seems happy and well adjusted. You have just gained family. That is not too shabby.
Keep us informed and post some pix of those grandkids some day.
I think it is great that you are proud of this and look forward to making a connection.
My mind has been whirling about this, I couldn't fall asleep until nearly 3AM and awoke at about 6.
Can't say that I am "proud of this" but I must say that all evidence indicates that I have plenty of reason to be proud of my daughter and grandkids.
In the FreeRepublic "society" context consider these cunundroms... This occurred in 1966-67 and there were no birth control pills yet as I recall. There was no legal abortion yet.
This was not the result of some sleazy 1 night stand, we were dating exclusively for some time and if the mom had told me she was pregnant I almost certainly would have married her.
But we were 19 and I was in the USAF and scheduled for being shipped overseas to Vietnam. The mom didn't know if she would ever see me again and in fact hasn't...I haven't spoken with her so I don't know exactly what drove her decision process, but certainly things would have developed differently if these events had taken place in the current society.
On the other side of that coin, if I had married the mom one thing is almost certain...there are three young people alive today who wouldn't be.
Wow!
Congratulations. What great news.
Beautiful.
Praise God at your new found Joy.
Wonderous mysteries of life.
I have seen this once before. From one whole country to another.
To me, it is a another real hard solid reason why abortion is wrong.
What does it mean when we click on reply and a message comes up that says the requested document is not on this server?
Indeed, but imagine what it is for this young lady!
The story of her search is fairly amazing and she stuck with it for 26 years then there was a bing on her mothers computer and her mother called her at work and told her that there had been a contact...then my second daughter "vetted" her for a while then spent more time trying to decided how to break it to me...since it was all a result of my first wife's idle meddling.
Then of course she was at least fortunate enough to meet an accepting and loving man who is not a blight on society.
Note that I have been on FreeRepublic for over 10 years so some of you sort of know me and my background. I'm sharing this because I have a very high regard for bonafide Freepers and I know that this is a kind of rare happening.
