Fashion titans like Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel are tapping for their ad campaigns, not young polished models, but women in their late 30s. First, 37 year old supermodel Claudia Shiffer appeared in the Chanel S/S 08 ad campaign. Then, Linda Evangelista, who turns 43 this May, has been chosen by Prada as the face of its fall ad campaign .

Maybe I’m just getting older, but I think most of these models in their 30’s are a lot better looking than the 20 year olds.

This doesn't surprise me. In the 90s models like Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington were the cover girls and style setters. They became celebrities and had big followings among the fashionistas. Women wanted the clothes they wore and the handbags they carried. Now all the fashion mags put movie stars on their covers every month. The story is which bag Gywneth is carrying today. The models no longer have star power. So why not go back to those star models that buyers still recognize? Makes sense to me.
I finally dropped my susbscription to Vogue because it has become just another celebrity rag. If I want to read another story about a brainless starlet who has someone else pick out her clothes, I can pay less money and read People or Us.

Yeah, she’s not ugly.
Pretty well epitomized beauty to me, perhaps because he fame corresponded with my puberty.

It's nice to know that we old broads have
some value left in the world! Of course we can stay slender and in shape. And the article is right: we are the ones who have true elegance; teenage girls may have their own beauty but they still have the coltishness of youth, and don't have the maturity or sophistication to be truly elegant.
But I'm a little shocked that Claudia Schiffer, at 37, is considered over the hill and not suitable for runways anymore. I think the runways would do a lot better with old broads wearing the clothes. After all, it's usually only old broads who have the money to buy couture.
