Barf! Barf! Barf! I can’t stand this guy! He needs to drop out of the race as he can’t win any big states and is the most arrogant person I have seen in a long time. I know some FRiends here love Obama for some reason, but don’t you realize how much he can’t stand most of us. Oops...all of us. McCain will do fine beating Hillary. I would not bet my paycheck on McCain beating Obama the “savior”.

The candidate-messiah phenomenon isn't unprecedented in the Democrat party. With every other presidential election comes some virtual unknown to capture the Democrat imagination and presidential nomination (or close to it). It's a surprisingly long list: Jimmy Carter, Mike Dukakis, Bill Clinton, Howard Dean, and now, Barak Obama.

Many irreligious people tend to make government their religion, with their presidential candidate as their god. It's easier to project messiah-like qualities onto an unknown quantity, than it is to a flesh-and-blood human being.

Republicans, on the other hand, tend to prefer time-tested candidates. During the same period, Republicans have nominated: Ford, Reagan, Bush, Dole and Bush II.

The comparison is very revealing of the Democrat mindset.
