anyone know how to re-install vista on a new pc?
turned on the power and it came up in the familiar black-screen:
not shut down properly, offering either standard or manual set-up.
without vista, the usb for the mouse and keyboard do not work.
i've used another mouse from another pc and it doesn't work.
thanks.

Just wondering if this happened on an HP laptop?
I would love to uninstall vista.
no.
as much as i don’t like my hp laptop, that’s the pc i’m using to communicate with you now.
my new desktop is a game pc with vista ultimate.
i have vista ultimate cd.
Install XP.
But seriously, why can’t you just run an install again?
the keyboard and mouse do not work
since vista ultimate is not installed properly, or,
more correctly, as the black screen says:
it was improperly shut down.
apparently at the factory.
it arrived to me out of the box with that black screen.

I followed some ‘helpful advice’ from a fellow freeper about an hour ago and HAVE SPENT THE LAST HOUR BRINGING BACK VISTA.
Go search out the Windows blogs. Lots of brains there. My suggestion - Find XP and install it.
I had a problem with my pc with the keyboard not working until windows loaded. Sadly, i needed to start the computer in safe mode and was unable to with that keyboard. I bought an 8 dollar keyboard and that one worked.
Do you have a keyboard and mouse made by microsoft? X_X
If the
pc was new and had only Vista installed (ie not an upgrade from XP) you should have a recovery disk to bring it back. I would try powering off for 30 mins first and then try firing it up again. Othrewise, find the install disk put it into the drive and reboot. Good luck
Ken, are you sure it’s a Vista problem? You should be able to boot from a DVD and get the mouse and keyboard. This sounds like it could be a hardware problem. If it’s under warranty, I’d let someone else worry about it and take it in for service. Although I don’t recall taking a PC in for service ever doing me any good anyway.
I think Richard Kimball nailed it. Do you have any boot media?
Just saying.
