Install XP.

But seriously, why can’t you just run an install again?

Go here or here for the best answers. Do yourself a favor and don't re-install Vista.

If the
pc was new and had only Vista installed (ie not an upgrade from XP) you should have a recovery disk to bring it back. I would try powering off for 30 mins first and then try firing it up again. Othrewise, find the install disk put it into the drive and reboot. Good luck

Ken, are you sure it’s a Vista problem? You should be able to boot from a DVD and get the mouse and keyboard. This sounds like it could be a hardware problem. If it’s under warranty, I’d let someone else worry about it and take it in for service. Although I don’t recall taking a PC in for service ever doing me any good anyway.

I think Richard Kimball nailed it. Do you have any boot media?

Sorry to say but if you have a disk to install xp do so, it will run 4x faster without those horrible security warnings.

Just saying.

There are a number of BIOS versions which do not support USB keyboards and mice by default. If this is your case reinstalling Vista (or installing XP) will not help.

It is possible CMOS was shorted as part of the uncontrolled shutdown and your BIOS has reverted to factory. In that case, you must buy (or borrow) a very cheap non-USB keyboard or buy a USB-to-serial keyboard adapter. Boot the PC, go into hardware setup, and look around the system setup. There will be an option to support USB keyboard. Make sure it's checked. Save the settings. The machine should reboot automatically--do NOT let windows start. Turn off the computer, then cold boot the PC.

Go back into hardware setup and make sure the USB keyboard is still in the state you changed it to. If it isn't, your machine is shutting down because your CMOS is shorting, or, more likely, your CMOS battery is bad. In that case go to Wal-Mart and buy a new one. CMOS batteries are usually photo C2036, I think, but pull it out and take it along.

Once you get USB keyboard settings in BIOS to stick where you left them, cold boot with the USB keyboard and see if the machine recognizes your hardware.

As with all problems involving women, automobile do-it-yourself repairs, or computers, a sense of humor is indispensable to the process.

how to re-install vista?

Maybe on someone else's computer? Perhaps someone you don't like, someone you don't care if they end up hating you. Maybe Bill Gates?
