White Racism

Let's see if I understand the rules. Blacks, African Americans, or whatever the politically correct nom du jour is, are free to rail against whites. But if a white dares to mention race, the consequences are dire.

Geraldine Ferraro is the latest casualty in the ongoing race war, which, oddly enough, has only white casualties. Geraldine was forced to step down from Hillary's campaign because she dared exercise her first amendment right, suggesting Obama wouldn't be succeeding in the Democratic nomination battle if he weren't black.

Whether or not her comment is valid will never be debated. For daring to offer an opinion on the subject of race, she has been cast from polite society. Her sin? Opining on race while being white. According to unwritten rules, only blacks are allowed to discuss, well, being black in America.

The Sharptons and the Jacksons have

Blacks have over-played that hand. Personally, I now recognize white racism only in past events. KKK? Jim Crow? Lynching? That was white racism. Today? I simply don't see it. And I'm not going to see it, thank you very much. It's over.

Black racism? I see it every day. America has a huge race problem. And I wish blacks would get a clue and end their hate.

Spot on!

As far as Obama goes, I believe the whole phenomenon was started by the media. He is only where he is because the media created him and propped him up continually. That wouldn’t have happened if he was a white guy.

Geraldine Ferraro knew exactly what she was doing when she made her comment - she knew blacks would get up in arms and that whites would object and that it would be front page.

It was not a “mistake”. She's been a pol long enough to know - this “stunt” and that's what it was - has all the earmarks of a Clinton strategy. Shame on them for playing this type of “action, reaction, synthesis” race card.

Action, reaction, synthesis.

They use a seemingly neutral race comment, evokes a known emotional response that triggers a angry reaction in black people, and forms negative reaction in white people. Race card synthesis - - helps Hillary.

Thinking four moves ahead on the chess board.

The liberals are fools and will destroy all of us, but the people who elected the fools are just as responsible as the fools who lead the fools and that is just the way it is.

To be fair, white America royally eff'd over an entire race for ... 200 years or so? Then made them second-class citizens for quite a bit after that.

Of course, this can all be a crutch for social and economic problems where blame can be placed elsewhere (usually back at black communities). That's a given. But to seriously wonder why black America is in the state its in after they spent centuries on an unlevel playing field is a bit galling.

Thomas Sowell and Larry Elder have interesting things to say on this issue. They indicate that black families, black communities, and black schools were in pretty good shape in the 1950's. Now, there were problems. There were elements of institutinalized white racism that needed to be swept away. But the basic foundation of black society in America was pretty firm.

That all changed with the Great Society. Black families, black communities, and black schools have all nose-dived in my lifetime because of the efforts made by white do-gooders on behalf of the blacks.

To look at troubled blacks in America today, and to link it to slavery or to 200 years of lower status, is to totally misread the problem we face today. Many blacks are in bad situations, but it's not because of racism. It's because of the culture of victimhood. And Barack and Michelle are helping to perpetuate that.

The word ‘racism’ has no gravitas anymore. It’s been used too widely, in too many inappropriate situations, against too many people to whom it doesn’t apply, by too many REAL racists [Sharpton, Jesse, the Rev. Wright] to have any real meaning. It means absolutely nothing.

it makes sense. obama is appealing to blacks who would otherwise have gone for hillary on account of race. what’s so controversial about that?

Oh, I am very familiar with Sowell's work. I agree with many of his ideas and theories, though I feel he brushes over the huge (in terms of time and viciousness) systemic oppression black Americans faced during the periods where he compared them to immigrants and the like.

Libertarians have the tendency to push the myth of America as a perfect meritocracy, and I think Sowell let his tendencies get the better of him with that argument.

Black America? White America? Everything-in-between-America? As a conservative, I want the same thing for everyone - a fair, competitive and open market for opportunity and advancement without any undue government intervention.

Wrong.

First, the USA started officially as a country in 1783. Slavery was officially ended in 1863 (but it took until 1865 to be able to enforce it). That's 82 years. Before the US became a country, it was the Europeans who brought slavery here, mostly to work the plantations owned by very rich Europeans and their various companies. The actual European immigrants to North America, as in those who came here to build new lives, were largely uninterested in slavery (Puritans, for example). Most of them were dirt poor anyway, and so couldn't have afforded slaves even if they believed in slavery.

Second, slavery was outlawed in at least half of the colonies even before the Revolution. Once the US became a country, it was only the Southern states which allowed slavery, and most southerners, however much they might have supported the slavery system, were not able to own slaves. The anti-slavery feelings that helped bring about the Civil War were already well in place in many of the colonies (later, in the States) long before the civil war.

Third, we fought a bloody, bloody, civil war to end slavery. Some revisionists try to say that the war wasn't really about slavery, but it was. Had slavery not existed, there would have been no civil war. Period.

So, to sum up, Americans fought and died to end an institution that they did not begin, for no other reason than that they believed it was wrong. How many other peoples of the world can say that? Certainly, slavery is a stain on the history of the US, and Jim Crow (which I will remind people was not a nation-wide thing), but the important thing is that Americans ended these things of their own accord, simply because they believed these things were wrong. Condemning the country for slavery and Jim Crow, as if Americans were forced against their will to give them up, is a complete distortion of the truth and seeks deliberately to taint the character of the country, when, in fact, it was the character of the country that allowed these things to end.

Me too. And not just in the political arena. If any white person has the audacity to confront a black person about behavioral issues, the white person is automatically a racist. Does not matter what the issue or the behavior, too many blacks think everything bad that happens to them is because of white people. See it all the time and it's happened to me, a white person. All I did was ask that the volume be turned down on the car stereo. Guess those remarks automatically made me a racist.

> All I did was ask that the volume be turned down on the car stereo. Guess those remarks automatically made me a racist.<

My son is in junior high, and if you don’t like rap music, they will label you a racist. Nevermind that a lot of it is filled with bad language, bad values and glorifies the “gangsta” lifestyle-if you don’t like their music that makes you a racist. My son’s social group is like a poster for diversity-but he chooses his friends based on their value system and what they have in common, not what they look like. But he’s white, so he’s an automatic racist from the get go in their opinion.

The parents could do a lot to change all this BS. All they seem to do is pass on the torch and hand the shoulder chip to the next generation. Nobody wants to be around or do anything for someone with a crummy attitude no matter what color they are. The “man” isn’t keeping them down, they are doing it THEMSELVES!

As Rush said this morning, there is a lot of money to be made from it. From Sharkton, Hijackson and the ACLU right down to the politicians pandering for votes and the people they’ve enslaved for decades, the money keeps on rolling. Nobody wants to end that gravy train. They’ll go and plant the nooses themselves just to keep it alive!
