They dont call him the Maverick for nothing. Its not inconsistent with what he has believed in the past. Its certainly in opposition to President Bushs statement that the U.S. does not torture. Its quite an uncomforting statement to be saying of our own military. Most surprisingly, its the Republican candidate saying this stuff. Maverick because he supported the Presidents veto of the a bill banning it. That support may have been on technicalities, but still mavericky.
Quite a statement for someone that should be trying to win over the conservative base. I dont think he is too worried about those guys though.

Time to get excited about the Republican candidate yet?
Aw, he's just trying to make me feel good.
I expected more reactions. I guess its late.
This sounds like something Barack Hussein Obama would say.
I still believe it is inaccurate and a major stretch of the Geneva Conventions to consider Islamic terrorists as POWs...
They do NOT fit the definitions of a LEGAL COMBATANT....
therefore should not be considered a Prisoner of War...
They’re outlaws at best, criminals on a “holy Jihad” and if guilty of murder or attempted murder -— should be shot immediately after “debriefing”....
Bob Dole was a messiah compared to McLame.
Before reading the reponses one wonders how long until the McBots show up to tell us how McBoob is a hero and therefore anything he says or does is wholly good AND acceptable.
That's the point Grunthor, folks have made up there minds on this turd already. I guess you can figure out where I stand on him. The McCainiacs avoid these threads like the plague as they reveal and ugly truth about this man.
He is far from conservative.
Regards
These dogs##t terrorists are NOT NOT NOT any POWs, they operate in total violation of the Geneva Conventions. The biggest mistake the Bush admin. did was not fighting this issue much more thoroughly upfront, from the early months...... they tried to just muddle through and it’s allowed all the Demagogues and RINOs and Euro-twit socialists to define the issue in totally ridiculous ways.
Wake up people. You elect this man, you condone the Republican Party to encourage this sort of behavior from here on out. There won’t be any more reasons for regular people to not vote for Democrats in the forseeable future.
“The McCainiacs avoid these threads like the plague as they reveal and ugly truth about this man.”
Mighty brave of them. But then their lives seem to be completely ruled by one fear or another, so it is not surprising. Seems to be we have three catagories of Freeper IMHO, the first is what I would call the broken glass Repube; these folks would crawl nekkid across it to vote for Hillary! if she had an “R” next to her name. The second would be Repubes that could not spell “principles” if their lives depended on it. These are the fear-based ones. They fear Democrats more than they fear Al Quaeda.
The final group, and also the smallest is us. Folks that have been pushed, insulted, spat upon, call names by the other two groups for years now. We also hold to our principles above all else. A motto for people like this group might be Aaron Tippins’ “You’ve Got to Stand For Something.”
The others hate us because they see in us the image of the Conservative that they wish to God they still were. For the life of me I’d never want to walk around with that much self-loathing going on behind my sternum.
Bump.
mcCain has been torturing conservatives
I can’t figure out when this interview took place. Do you know?
