Tonight my local CBS affiliate had a spot about the fact that the presidential candidates arent delivering voter information to the local party reps. The pubic is frustrated because they cant get candidate/party literature to make their informed vote. Give me a break! People dont understand this is propaganda? Now lets be serious, most voters dont even go to that trouble. They may see a newscast that has shown only 4 candidates for the past month, or Colbert and Letterman. Yeah, like we need that vote! Ugh .
Id say, after watching this current primary, there is an ineffective minority of us who actually vote based on a candidates record on issues or his/her (ack!) history. A famous dictator said, Its best for the leaders that the people are ignorant. Absurd outcomes of elections by electing the worst possible candidates dont happen by accident. If people are not elected on their merits and ability to handle the job, why are they being elected? None of the answers are good.
Lets ignore the democrats for the moment. I dont have the energy. John McCain is absolutely, without a doubt, the worst candidate running as a republican in this primary. The second worst is Mike Huckabee. Any of them, yes even Ron Paul would be better. Not that Paul is the answer, its just those two really are that bad.
We must find a way to increase the number of informed voters. Im not talking about the people who vote out their childhood traumas .Im poor ..I vote for the woman .I wont vote for a Mormon .Mike Huckabee sounds like the fool I am .Tea will flow in Boston Harbor if Ron Paul is elected, .etc. Nothing can be done for them, theyve existed before man voted and theyll always be there to try to screw it all up for the rest of us. Im talking about the good Americans out there who dont go bonkers when you tell them something they dont know. The ones who would vote intelligently if they could get the information.
Theyre not on the internet, many dont have cable, they read their local rag. They hang out with people who dont know any more than they do. When you find how to reach them, you will solve the problem. We fall under the illusion that we are more informed than our ancestors. Im not so sure. It was a hand delivered booklet carried over thousands of miles on horseback or foot that brought them the American Revolution. Those primitives elected George Washington, Thomas Jefferson .you know the routine ..ALL without TELEVISION! They could do it, but we cant? Thats messed up.
Today I was contacted by 3 different groups all deciding theyre going to start a 3rd party by gosh! Thatll fix this mess! Oh and how is anyone going to find out about these savior 3rd parties and their earthshaking ideas? CBS, CNN, FOX? ..Right! Thinking party is what has us in this mess. If it has an R beside its name, it must be all good! Yahoo! Were all bent out of shape trying to defeat the Democrats --- Republicans cant even defeat the Republicans in this election! We already have 2 parties that dont function, we sure dont need more. There are times for parties to grow, this isnt one of them.
I got to show someone today the real John McCain after she voted for him yesterday thinking they were electing a respected, conservative Senator and war hero. This person feels bad, real BAD! She read the party literature and watches all the network news and reads a couple newspapers. But none of them are telling her the truth.
Think about this. The approval rating of congress is in the low 20s. Eighty percent of the country thinks the House and Senate stink! The 3 TOP candidates are all from the Senate, the slimiest elitist club ever known to man. Those three, McCain, Obama, and Hillary have been campaigning for the last 4 years instead of doing their job! Two of them are lawyers and that ought to disqualify them right off the bat. And McCain, well, hes off the bat, too.
And someone wants to promote them? How does this make ANY sense?
'If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." Thomas Paine
It was over before it started.
Next time will be the same was even less fair for us because they will do it in every state.
This experiment called the US has officially come to end.
Ron Paul has been the last candidate on my mind for the entire primary season. Not to mention the year-long season before the primaries actually started.
I have extreme heartburn about his foreign policy stance. But they don't call the guy "Dr. NO" for nothing, in the US House. About 98% of the time, if he doesn't think something in a bill is authorized by the Constitution, he votes NO.
So I'm wondering, if he was President, would he just veto bills over and over and over as they came to him from Congress, if he thought anything in them was not authorized by the Constitution? Frankly, at this point in the election, and at this point in our history, four years of very hardcore gridlock would be somewhat appealing. The Congress would have to continually override his vetoes, if they wanted to keep the trillions of dollars of socialist crap funded. I wonder if they could?
As far as Paul's foreign policy, we wouldn't be in any wars that didn't have a formal declaration of war from the Congress - just like the Constitution says they should be authorized. And frankly, if we have another siginficant terror attack, and can't get most of the 535 members of Congress to declare war, this country may not be worth saving anyway.
I think you’re asking the same questions most of us are. As far as this election goes, I don’t know that there is anything to save it.
“It was over before it started.”
Yes, it was. We’re not privy to the plans they have. Obviously.
The odds of trying the same plan with Ron Paul instead of Romney, after McCain is 40% of the way there are surely much, MUCH smaller.
Agreed.
Good column and spot on.
Thank you Sussa.
Ron Paul for President!
This article is spot on. It’s heartbreaking and infuriating.
Very, VERY good, AuntB!!!
“Ron Paul for President!”
I hope he changes his mind and runs 3rd party. Nothing can make this race worse. He has no delegates and will never get anything from the GOP.
Excuse me, I should not have said Paul has “no’ delegates, he has 42 delegates. Not enough to do him any good. I doubt Huck or Romney will assign their delegates to Paul.
There is still time to recruit him or someone else for Third Party!
Thank you both. I decided last night to go back to more of my local newspaper as a resource. They’ve been after me to write a column. If they are willing, I will do one, “Vote Smart or don’t vote at all” with voting records, real information on issues. We can’t keep doing this futile routine every four years.
You do that column and do it up proud, hear??? (grin)
I promise I will get new glasses before I do! There is a terrible typo in this article, and no I won’t point it out!
