Fred Thompson Suckered The Conservatives (Vanity . . . and yes, Fred Thompson Suckered YOU)
1/23/08 | Greg F

Posted on 01/23/2008 6:48:33 AM PST by Greg F

Every conservative is gone from the race now and Fred proved he had no stomach for a fight. He was behind after a few rounds and didn't even come out to see if he could win a last round knockout. He was a stalking horse for somebody, in my opinion. He froze up conservative money through the early campaign season and dissuaded dark horse conservatives from testing the waters . . . and then dropped out after campaigning in one state. Thompson has screwed up everything he's touched in politics . . . from his crushing of Nixon with his "what did you know, when did you know it question" through Howard Baker, to his campaign finance "reform" with McCain, to his botched 'leadership' of the Clinton impeachment, to his 2008 candidacy that ousted every true conservative from the race. Free Republic Republicans got suckered. I will add the perfunctory, in my opinion. There. I feel better.

Also, the idea of old man Fred as a VP candidate is plain stupid. We already have seen what we get when we make an uncharismatic older guy with health problems VP . . . which is that we get absolutely nothing. Cheyney just left us without a presumptive nominee and a main challenger to him in this race. We end up with a media driven campaign and RINO's running the show.

JOkes on you and those who are synics, Thompson brought some of the base back long to enough to get behind Romney, and Fred will be his VP candiate, and that ticket can beat the commies led by Clinton and Dean.

I am not going to concede to Hillary. We can’t afford it.

I know more than a handful of Florida folks who are voting for Rudy in an effort to open up the delegate count.

Nod. I think that a Guilianni vote in Florida makes the most sense for a Florida conservative voter. Just screw the pooch of these RINO campaigns and try to make sure none of the RINO’s get enough delegates to win.

If that pair of thunder thighs ever makes it to the White House we can all pack it up, for it will all be over.

Yes, amazing how many were swayed by Fred being a zzzz-list actor and grasping onto him and projecting and wishing him to be something he never was. All in the name of ‘name recognition’. Of all the people, Fred Thompson??!! All the smugness and arrogance on the part of the “FredHeads” how he was going to run away with this and the absurdity that it was ‘brilliant’ how he entered when he did because people would get ‘bored’ of all the others. Problem is that Fred turned out to be quite boring himself. The Republican party is really vacant of any type of leadership and it is facing a tough reality.

It should have been Duncan Hunter. But leave it to certain idiots to condone the censorship of Hunter and push a candidate who had all the advantages and really was nothing but a dud and disappointed people when they actually learned more than a ‘name’ and face.

What a sure thing Fred was, right smurfy? Just shows you how great polls and a ‘name’ were. But it’s understandable you are so on edge due to the fact Fred has to be one of the great implosions in the history of politics.

Thread is still up guys and gals. You need to stop with the group think and look at what has happened to conservatives in these primaries (and the 2000 primaries, and the 1996 primaries, and the 1988 primaries . . . It’s been since 1979 that the conservative has won a constested Presidential primary in the Republican party. 30 years.

FRed was never a sure thing. He was hope.

Glad to see you’re so chipper about it, being the good Conservative full of love and best wishes for our Country and all.

Ping to post 51. And knock off the personal attacks or at least try to make them clever, if you remain able to after deadening your critical faculties so long with online group think.

What did conservatives do differently this primary than they did in 2000, 1996, or 1988? Same thing, same result. Send $40 in to this guy or that guy. Watch him get no traction. Feel a little bitter when he drops out, but not enough to get up off the duff and do something next time. Nope. Not that important!

Great post. It concisely articulated the frustration I’ve had for the past year. Duncan Hunter was the man for 08. It was like God gave us a chance saying, “here’s the guy you want, if you want your nation to survive.” We said, “No! we we want the actor, we want the actor!”

Well, if Fred wanted to fight for the nomination at a “brokered” convention he would have stayed in the race to keep his name out there and to get some votes at the non “winner-take-all” type primaries. What are you thinking?

National reporter Jamie Dupree just stated that Thompson’s run for President was never taken very seriously by his own staffers or observers outside his campaign. During this interview, another participant in the discussion referred to Thompson as “chicken” when referring to his unwillingness to embrace fundamental change to the income tax laws.
