The Latest Republican Campaign News

Mike Huckabee pulled a move this afternoon that was too cute by half: he called a press conference to announce he was pulling a negative anti-Romney campaign ad, and then showed the ad to the assembled press -- obviously hoping he would get mileage out of the ad while taking credit for being a "nice guy."

As I mentioned in a comment at Holy Coast earlier today, I was curious about a Jonathan Martin article posted yesterday at Politico which include the news that blogger Joe Carter has left the Huckabee campaign. Carter joined the campaign to much fanfare just about a month ago, so this news was certainly interesting. I'd love to know more.

David Limbaugh came out strongly in favor of Fred Thompson today. Beltway pundits and the media have already written Thompson off. We shall see. As I mentioned last night, I loved Fred's video message to Iowans.

USA Today had an excellent editorial today calling for the end of Iowa and New Hampshire's "special" status in the primary system, suggesting rotating regional primaries instead. I completely agree, as I wrote here last May. More on this from Captain's Quarters and John Fund.

Is it just me, or is it big that David Limbaugh came out in support of Fred Thompson?

The Huckster is dishonest! We don’t need him as our President. He’s not trustworthy.

Reluctantly, I have concluded that NOTHING is as important as Huckabee’s cute teeth.

Does David and Rush share political ideas and thoughts ?
Would it be safe to say that Rush believe as David does ?
Or would Rush have a more positive light on Fred ?

Very unimpressive.

He pulled a Hillary - called a press conference to announce his not running this ad and then SHOWS IT TO THE PRESS TO GIVE IT MORE AIR TIME.

The Huckster is a sleaze.

That the guy is a minister is very disturbing. He appears to be a sort of poor magic act.

Huckabee is doing more damage to the way Republicans are perceived than many here know. He is a sleazy little twerp who is reminding everyone of the "Rich Republican Preacher-type" of the eighties.

We can laugh at him, but he is doing real damage.

I think he's also probably out of money and wanted free air time.

So when does the LSM start harping about Huckabee “bleeding” staffers and so on? I bet this is ignored, but when FRED’s staff changes, the whining never stops.

D Limbaugh did.

He did fall into the media trap of wanting a “showman” to boost ratings/interest.
