The Primaries are almost here, and many Americans
are still undecided.  Maybe the candidates should debate a little more...

So I have heard that there might be another Republican debate the week after Christmas and before new years and the Iowa Caucus, because they felt this last one was a little too boring (they were right, it was).  So hopefully we’ll get to see them altogether one last time and hopefully this time, they’ll really differentiate themselves from one another and we’ll get a chance to see someone clearly shine above the rest.  It’s been tough for me to decide on who I plan to vote for in the primary.  I do have a few that I am considering seriously, but first let’s review the GOP candidates.

John McCain:  I like John McCain, he’s a war hero, he’s been in the senate since 1986, and he does have some good ideas.  I have a few problems with McCain, the most recent being the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act that he co-authored with Senator Kennedy.  Most of your remember it from this last summer, people were outraged, understandably.  McCain also has a history of compromising.  He’s been on the wrong side of the fence one too many times, and this summer was it for me.  He says he learned a big lesson this summer, that the American people don’t trust their government to get the things done that they say they will.  John, that is nothing new.  Ask a lot of liberals who their favorite republican is and they’ll either tell you Mayor Bloomberg or John McCain.  I don’t frown on anyone who decides to vote for McCain, but I just can’t do it.

Tom Tancredo:  I don’t really know too much about Representative Tancredo, unfortunately.  From what I’ve watched on the debates and read in the news, he is a good candidate, but for some reason or another doesn’t get much attention.  The one thing I do know about him is that he is very active on illegal immigration enforcement and border security, more-so than anyone else running for President, other than maybe Duncan Hunter.  No I’d say Tom Tancredo is the number one candidate for securing the borders and enforcing illegal immigration laws.

Duncan Hunter:  I have learned a lot about Duncan Hunter over the past year.  He’s been on the Glenn Beck program on more than a few occasions.  He is a real conservative, he has the right ideas, and he is very strong on the border.  In fact last October, 2006, Duncan Hunter authored the bill to build the 700 miles of fence along the U.S. and Mexico border.  He was involved in building the fence between San Diego and Tijuana, where the fence there alone reduced San Diego’s crime by over 70%.  I really like Duncan Hunter, and I can’t understand why he hasn’t gotten more attention.  I don’t have anything negative to say about Duncan Hunter, other than he has thus failed to reach the Republican voters.  A lot of people don’t know who he is, or that he’s the guy working to fix the southern border problems.

Ron Paul:  Whew… I find Ron Paul interesting.  For those interested Ron Paul will be on Glenn Beck’s TV program (on CNN Headline News) for an hour Tuesday night I believe.  From what I have watched of him in debates and the local Ron Paul supporters with the “Ron Paul Revolution”, my impression is “That guy is crazy”.  However, I’m very interested in what he has to say on Tuesday night.  I think Dr. Paul is someone who will defend the Constitution of the United States more passionately than any other candidate.  Literally, this guy lives, eats, and sleeps the Constitution when it comes to voting for legislation, and he has the congressional record to prove it.  I think that’s probably his biggest plus.  I also noticed that, even the polls don’t reflect it, this guy is raising a ton of money, and I am seeing more and more signs in my area.  On the negative side, I don’t like his position on the war in Iraq, he has the same “Cut & Run” attitude as the Democrats as far as Iraq goes, which is my biggest problem with him.  Dr. Paul also believes very strongly in small government and in not raising taxes, two very good beliefs for a candidate to have.  Dr. Paul did vote against the Patriot Act, which makes sense for him to do so based on some parts of the Patriot Act.  There are parts in the Patriot Act that do not agree with our Constitution, however I think the Patriot Act has saved lives on numerous occasions and is a large reason why we haven’t been hit by another terrorist attack.  Tuesday is going to be interesting, I’m very curious about Ron Paul, but I’m also very cautious at the same time.

Mike Huckabee:  Governor Huckabee has been steadily climbing the polls over the last few months.  He has proven to be a good communicator, a religious, and compassionate candidate.  Many people are drawing to Huckabee and I was one of them a month or so ago.  I watched him on Glenn Beck, for an hour, and after watching him I thought “this is my guy”.  He talked conservative, he understood the challenges America faces, and he seemed to have some reasonable solutions and ideas.  However, I’m not a Huckabee guy any more.  My turning point was when he did the interview with the New York Times and threw in the cheap shot question (about Gov. Romney), “Don’t Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are brothers”?  I thought it was a cheap shot and even in a competitive election, I didn’t find it very appropriate.  So then looking into Huckabee’s history, there is a lot of controversy about his “compassion”.  I think he’s a little too compassionate.  Using tax payer money to fund the educations of illegal immigrants, sure it is compassionate of him, but is not a decision or action the government should be taking with taxpayer money.  This from a guy who has consistently raised taxes as Governor of Arkansas.  I know a lot of you are Huckabee supporters, but there is something strange about him.  I feel like he’s no better than Hillary, willing to do and say whatever it takes to get the nomination.  I just don’t feel he’s the guy I should vote for, again I can see why many of you might chose to do so.

Mitt Romney:  The first thing that comes to mind for me with Governor Romney is what this guy could do for our economy.  He’s a businessman, and his record in business is amazing.  He’s aspirational, he’s someone that can get America’s economy moving in the right direction, and instill the idea in every American that America’s best days have yet to come.  Mitt Romney is a guy who will always put America first.  His speech “Faith in America” was a great example of his patriotism and this guy understands and has no problem confronting the enemies and challenges of the United States.  When I see him on the debates, I can see something in his eyes and in his answers that I don’t see in the other candidates, he’s optimistic, he's aspirational, and he has the “fire in the belly” that people say they want to see in their candidate.  I think Mitt is the number one candidate when it comes to the economy.  He’s also one of my top three picks.

Rudy Giuliani:  Mayor Giuliani is the only candidate that I have seen in person.  When it comes to getting results, this is “The” candidate.  While Mayor of New York City “crime was cut by 56%, murder was cut by 66%, and New York City—once considered the crime capital of the country—became the safest large city in America according to the FBI” (joinRudy2008.com/about).  This is the guy I want to precede President Bush in fighting the war on terror.   He understands our enemies and will not compromise with them, I feel more confident in Rudy on National Security and the War on Terror than any of the other candidates.  When it comes to terrorists, Rudy is the guy I see as having no problems "shooting the bad guys in the head".  Also, he probably has the best health care solution of the all candidates, which consists of lowering costs & increasing quality using free market principles, his plan focuses on increasing competition by allowing interstate policies (live in Georgia you can buy a plan in Iowa, etc.), improving and expanding health savings accounts, and lowering taxes… basically putting more power in the consumer’s hands, as opposed to the democrat government run health care proposals, his will actually work.  Mayor Giuliani is a leader, a fighter, and someone who will get the job done, his leadership, accomplishments, and mayoral record are proof.  When 9/11 happened, there couldn’t have been a better man to respond as Mayor, than Rudy Giuliani.  Another idea I like of Giuliani is his plan to lower government spending, some 40% of government employees are going to retire over the next 10 years, his plan is to not re-hire people into those government positions and instead use technology to replace those jobs, what a concept!  Lower costs and increase efficiency at the same time.  Rudy is in my top three picks.

Fred Thompson:  Finally Fred.   Here’s a guy where “what you see is what you get”.  He’s no B.S., straight talking candidate who means what he says, whatever and whenever he says it.  I did this, and I’d ask you to do the same, go through the list of candidates and ask “Can I trust and believe what he says?  Do I believe he’ll follow through with what he promises?”  After going through the list there was only one candidate that I was most confident in my answer, Fred Thompson.  He is a conservative, he has the same family and American values that most of us have, he’s quite possibly the only true conservative in the race.  Fred supports lower taxes, in fact he wants to implement a flat tax, which I think would be a great thing for our economy and every American.  Our tax code is too complicated, I believe Fred will make a flat tax happen.  When it comes to national security, I think Fred Thompson is a guy that will inject fear in the hearts of our enemies, they already know (or should figure it out fast) that he is not someone who they can “test” or take lightly .  Just like Giuliani, Fred Thompson will not hesitate to “shoot the bad guys in the head”, he just takes a little longer to explain it.  I’d rank him right behind Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo on immigration and the border, he takes the issue seriously, and he won’t compromise with Mexico and special interest groups, he’ll get the border secured and fix the immigration problem.  Fred also supports free market solutions to solving America’s health care problem.  Fred gets it, he’s consistent, he doesn’t play games, and he has the determination and the right ideas and solutions for the tsunami of challenges that will face America and our next President over the next 10 years.

Currently my vote is between Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani, and Mitt Romney and I could seriously use another debate to make my final decision.  If I had to vote today, right now, it would be Fred Thompson.  I am stuck between these three guys because, we need someone who can effectively manage and consistently face the challenges and enemies our country faces now and in the near future, all three of these candidates are who I would consider as “Men who will not back down or compromise with the enemies of the United States”.  We need someone who can inspire the American people and all three of these candidates have inspired me.  We need someone who can keep the United States economy competitive with the top and emerging economies of the world, these three candidates have explained their goals, ideas, and plans satisfactorily and I believe their plans can work.

Hopefully if there is another debate, and there is some “actual” debating this time.  I hope everyone will get out and vote for your candidate at your state’s primary.  There really is a lot of talent on the Republican side and this isn’t an easy choice.  My advice, don’t worry about the polls, think about the challenges that America and the next President will face, think about the differences in the candidates, go to their websites, read their positions, and on primary day, even if it ends up being Alan Keyes, go with your gut and not with the bandwagon.

America's best days have yet to come, but we will face some serious challenges and I think at the last debate, Fred Thompson said it best:  "When the enemies of this country are at the negotiating table, who do you want representing you?  Whoever that guy is, that's the guy you ought to vote for President!".

I think Dr. Paul is someone who will defend the Constitution of the United States more passionately than any other candidate

Simply screaming the word "Constitution" in every other sentence does not make a person a "Defender of the Constitution of the United States".

Actually go read Dr Paul's website. Slogans and demagoguery is the total sum of his campaign. Based on his statements, his, and his followers, ignorance on how our system of Govt actually works nears 100%.

We are electing a President, not a dictator or a king. Dr Paul has demonstrated an almost complete lack of the least hint of a possibility of a clue of an notion of an understanding of both the powers granted to, and the limits placed on, on the Office of President by the US Constitution.

Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and he’s got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

Nice personal synopsis. Would be great if all voters gave such attention to the candidates. You set a good example for them to follow.
