'Another Lying Ex-governor from Arkansas in White House?'
National Ledger via News By Us Blog ^ | November 16, 2007 | John W. Lillpop

Most Americans recall all too well the turmoil and discord of the Clinton Presidency of 1992-2000. While in office, President Clinton fine tuned the art of issuing misleading, inaccurate and flat out false statements into a precise science.

The unvarnished truth is that President Clinton lied through his teeth, regularly and unashamedly.

Perjury and obstruction of justice eventually caught up with President Clinton, as he was ultimately stripped of his license to practice law and forbidden from arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court, at least temporarily.

Fifteen years after the Democrat ex-governor from Arkansas lied his way into the White House, the Republican party has its own silver tongued, double talking “bubba.”

That would be Mike Huckabee, another ex-governor from Arkansas who finds the truth devilishly elusive, or downright disgusting to be more precise.

Mike Huckabee has been caught in a real whopper, even by the standards for deceit set by Bill Clinton.

Apparently, Huckabee lied about having a degree in theology.

WND: http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=59222

The mind boggles: An ordained Baptist pastor and first-tier presidential candidate lied about having a degree in theology! What in the hell is this nation coming to?

Even more distressing is Huckabee’s record while serving as the CEO of Arkansas. This governor raised taxes and encouraged illegal immigration, for heaven’s sake!

And now he is running as the candidate best suited to meet conservative expectations in 2008?

God, please, spare America and her people from another lying ex-governor from Arkansas in the Oval Office!

Make that “God, please, spare America and her people from another lying ex-governor from Arkansas, or female spouse thereof, in the Oval Office!”

Look at my post #77. I’m not supporting Huckabee. But I am in favor of doing away with the silly demonization of members of our party.

I defend truth. When Huckabee is wrong, I’m eager to proclaim it.

Your characterizing my writings as “worship” show you for the illiterate FReeper that you are.

“Your failure to actually ask me a question and then to accuse me of not answering said non-existent question is telling me that you are not paying attention.”

Or lying. Big time.

Include me when you talk trash about me.

Your continued trash-talking about me is consistent with your trash-talking about Huckabee. Fruitless.

If you want to bring down Huckabee, stick with the facts. The truth is sufficient.

Where ? SPECIFICALLY ? does Huckabee claim ?he has an MA (Master of Arts) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary?? Be specific. I want a quote from Huckabee himself, or a reference on his personal website. Not a screwed up bio put together by an underpaid reporter.

Did you listen to the last debate? When he was bragging about how much more he knew about Islam and terrorism because he has a "degree in theology"?

Impressive. I never knew the difference between a Religion and Theology degree was so important a distinction. Thanks for giving us Huckabee supporter the clarification.

In the meantime, we do what we can, covertly and overtly, to bring down that government while not alienating the people of Iran.

Sounds good, just what do you think that translates into in terms of real world activity? When have we ever been able to "bring down" an entrenched tightly controlled police state, with huge resources and international allies like Russia and China? We haven't even been able to bring down Castro, a vest-pocket pimp on our own doorstep, in forty seven years.

And don't forget, these maniacs are on their way to a nuclear asset, which they intend to use, and which means we don't have all day.

But maybe Huck will have devised some secret plan, like Kerry's "plan" to extricate us from Iraq, maybe, that has eluded the combined efforts of national security teams and intel agencies ever since 1979. Maybe. But I doubt it.

Problem for Huckleberry: Where's the beef?

The degree shown in Huckabee’s bio is for “Religion.” Earned from Ouachita Baptist University in 1976. Is that what you were asking for?

Are you saying that his degree doesn’t say “Religion,” but something else?

The school now, for what it’s worth, doesn’t offer “religion” degrees, but degrees in “theology.”

When you present yourself as a “MAN OF GOD” (shouting intentional) you are expected to maintain certain standards.

Come on. Don’t be silly. I asked: “Specifically differentiate “theology” from “religion.” No significant difference. None.”

You responded to that question, but without answering it. I requested an answer.

If the guy admits he’s a liar and asks for forgiveness, that’s one thing...but it’s so blatant...

I don’t recall were I read that little jingle, it was in some local history book or something, just one of those little ditties kids would sing as they went about the business of growing up in a rural America.

Just home from work, sorry if this is a duplicate:

Drudge, quote,

‘Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee told the Christian Broadcasting Network he had a theology degree, he told voters in Iowa he had a theology degree, he repeated the claim in last month’s CNN YouTube debate ... but, his campaign now says, it was not true.

‘Huckabee’s claim began unraveling following his offhanded comment about Mormonism in a New York Times interview last weekend.

‘Reporter Zev Chafets wrote: “I asked Huckabee, who describes himself as the only Republican candidate with a degree in theology, if he considered Mormonism a cult or a religion. ‘I think it’s a religion,’ he said. ‘I really don’t know much about it.’

‘”I was about to jot down this piece of boilerplate when Huckabee surprised me with a question of his own: ‘Don’t Mormons,’ he asked in an innocent voice, ‘believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?’”

‘In the interview, Huckabee’s account of his education made no mention of his having earned a theology degree.

‘Chafets wrote: “If young Mike Huckabee was ever rebellious or difficult, there’s no record of it. He preached his first sermon as a teenager, married his high-school sweetheart and went off to Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. There he majored in speech and communications, worked at a radio station and earned his B.A. in a little more than two years. He spent a year at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Tex., before dropping out to work for the televangelist James Robison, who bought him his first decent wardrobe and showed him how to use television.” ‘

End quote

The school now, for what it’s worth, doesn’t offer “religion” degrees, but degrees in “theology.”

That's probably why he thought he could away with passing off his lightweight degree in religion as a heavyweight degree in theology. The slickest lies borrow an element of superficial plausibility.

That still doesn't explain why he claimed an graduate degree (MA) from SBTS when he never even finished half the program.

Talking trash about me? Check out comment #84.

Why are you attacking me so personally, Checkers? I’ve stated that I’m not in favor of Huckabee. And yet you continue your attacks, now toward me? Are you just angry? Is your wife cheating on you? Has your dog urinated on your favorite shoes? And now you’re taking it out on me for saying that Huckabee has a terrible record and that we shouldn’t vote for him? And that we should ... try to be civil? A bit?
