After the king's retort to Mr. Chavez, some Spanish commentators suggested it was not dignified for the king to speak in this way, as if he was making it into a street fight. Numerous British left-wing media and other continental commentators actually took Chavez's side. (This should be no surprise, considering the venomous hatred of the U.S. in European media circles,) There has been very limited coverage of this story in American mainstream media.
But almost everywhere else, the king's rebuke has become a new rallying cry. In Venzuela, the oppositiion to Mr. Chavez has adopted "Por que no te callas?" as its slogan. A reggae ballad has already been composed, and along with videos of the incident, is available world wide on You Tube and its equivalents.

I think it was very appropriate. Chavez needed to be told this, and the King did it in a proper way. I was proud of the King — someone finally had to have the character to say it to Hugo.
Chavez was the first to start shooting his opponents though, but Spitzer certainly isn't far behind. You just know he'd do it if he thought he could get away with it, and who can forget him sending his State Police body guard contingent after the Republican leader of the State Senate.
All these leftards think the same way. It's just like they've been infected with a virus.
When we're done with the real war it's time to remove these people from political life, and maybe even economic life ~ certainly a bunch of 'em there too.
Definitely. I heard on the news that he is very much appreciated by most of his countrymen. He showed how childish Chavez is. I can see W laughing (Texas style) in the Oval Office watching it on the news. :-)
Let’s keep working at electing and insisting on respectful leadership. I’ll do the little that I can do here. I don’t stand for this type of garbage from our elected officials.
LOL. Yes, indeed.
That's lovely Spanish!
I really LIKE that King!
And he used the informal “tu” form, as if he were talking to a child.
That's even BETTER!
Too bad the chavez kid didn't NOTICE he was being publically spanked.
El Rey es muy hombre.
Claro!
