Good writing, thanks for posting this.
Here’s a strong contrast:
And I would say to my colleagues, Senator Thompson, and the other senators, you all voted for Most Favored Nation trading status for Communist China. That set the groundwork for 1.8 million high-paying, manufacturing jobs moving offshore. ....Id bring those jobs back home to the United States. And I would connect up the middle class of America with the Republican Party one more time.
.... Fred was given the chance to respond and muttered something about the importance of free trade being necessary for the US to maintain our economic strength.

We need to move away from the Kennedy wing of the Republican Party. Yes, we do. And Representative Hunter would clearly be the best candidate for President to do that.
To: pissant
Madison really does a nice job.
“One huge area of disagreement, of course, was when Reagan proposed the 1986 Amnesty for illegal aliens. Hunter did not buy into that debacle for one minute, despite some arm twisting on the part of the Administration. Reagan eventually realized his friend was right.

WOW! Great column!! What is wrong with everyone who cannot get on board with Duncan?
And from the debate, I also loved this statement from Duncan Hunter. While others are marvelling at Freddie’s “b;tch slap” calling Matthews “Christopher”. OOH! Duncan nails the senators, Fred & co. with this cold shower.
And I would say to my colleagues, Senator Thompson, and the other senators, you all voted for Most Favored Nation trading status for Communist China. That set the groundwork for 1.8 million high-paying, manufacturing jobs moving offshore. Going offshore and some of them never to return. And what I would do is pass the Hunter-Ryan bill which would put countervailing duties on the Chinese when they cheat. They are cheating on trade right now. Id bring those jobs back home to the United States. And I would connect up the middle class of America with the Republican Party one more time.

An awesome tour-de-force of history.
Actions really do speak louder than words.
Duncan is a man who has walked the walk, not just suddenly started talking the talk.
And if you noticed, I never heard him talk about running to the lawyers as a precondition to any defensive action...

China Losing More Manufacturing Jobs Than U.S. But Adding Service Jobs at a Rapid Pace
“China is losing more manufacturing jobs than the United States. For the entire economy between 1995 and 2002, China lost 15 million manufacturing jobs, compared with 2 million in the U.S., The Conference Board reports in a study released today.”
That’s 15% of it’s total, while worldwide the average is 11%...America being no greater.
http://www.conference-board.org/utilities/pressDetail.cfm?press_ID=2432
According to various UN statistics and other available data, outsourcing isn’t necessarily the culprit in manufacturing. It’s productivity...primarily through automation. That is robots are taking over...lol.
http://www.blogsource.org/2004/03/27_million_lost.html
Now Duncan has his points in saying our trade policies are foolish in ways. Mostly because we don’t enforce our trade policies ie the bush adminstration fails do so. If we JUST pushed our copyright laws in China, there are estimates we’d have a very small deficit (if any). That in line with actual enforcement of trade agreements...then you get a picture.

Here's the truth of the matter: Duncan Hunter can't get elected President until he rises to a higher echelon than "Congressman."
Each state has one Governor. Each state has two Senators. It's somewhat of a miracle if people can name all three figures in their state. On the other hand, members of the House of the Representatives number 435 throughout the nation.
Seven sparsely populated states have but one Congressperson; California has 53.
Governors have great advantage when it comes to running: They have executive experience, name recognition among people of the state, and they've already won a statewide election. Senators have national name recognition and a victory in the state, but only legislative experience. Congress(wo)men only have legislative experience, and it's rare that they are well-known if they are not either Speaker of the House or Minority Leader.
I live in San Francisco. Duncan Hunter's from San Diego. If I had heard of Hunter before he announced he was running, I forgot about him.
If Duncan Hunter seriously wants to be President, he ought to run for Governor of California after R-nold terms out. It is unlikely he would win a race against Sen. Feinstein or Boxer, who, I reluctantly remind you, received more votes in 2004 than any Senate candidate in the nation's history. Of course, Hunter would first have to buck the California Republican Party, which has been controlled by RINOs who cower in fear of riling the lefties.
