Officer in trouble over motorist's video in South County(Cop caught threatening to invent Charges)
St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | 09/11/2007 | By Patrick M. O'Connell and Georgina Gustin

A car-mounted video camera — more commonly used by police than against them — captured a loud and threatening confrontation in this tiny St. Louis County community that left an officer on suspension and the whole world able to listen in.

[snip]

A voice identified as Kuehnlein's can be heard taunting the driver and threatening to jail him on fabricated charges.

The tape, made late last week, was from a camera running in the vehicle Kuehnlein approached, police said.

[snip]

In the video, Kuehnlein, a St. George officer for about two years, approaches a young man who was sitting in a parked car about 2 a.m. in a commuter lot near Spokane and Reavis Barracks roads. Kuehnlein asks for identification. When Darrow asks whether he did anything wrong, the officer orders him out of the car and begins shouting.

"You want to try me? You want to try me tonight? You think you have a bad night? I will ruin your night. … Do you want to try me tonight, young boy?"

Darrow says no.

"Do you want to go to jail for some (expletive) reason I come up with?" the police officer says. Later, Darrow says, "I don't want any problems, officer."

"You're about to get it," Kuehnlein is heard saying. "You already started your (expletive) problems with your attitude."

After the officer notices the camera, he says, "I don't really care about your cameras, 'cause I'm about ready to tow your car, then we can tear 'em all apart."

[snip]

Darrow said he was not trying to entrap the officer. He said he pulled into the commuter lot to meet a friend. When the officer asked him for identification, Darrow said he didn't immediately present it because he believes the officer stopped him without probable cause.

When my house was broken into last year, the cops were here in less than 90 seconds - guns drawn.
My guess is that all you prepubescent cop haters have been on the wrong end of a night stick more than a few times and you think that makes it okay to call them "Pigs."
Go back to your bedroom in your parents' basement and stick to your Gameboy.

A police officer with a similar anger control problem stopped me a few years ago. He made various loud threats but could not give me a ticket. Later I heard that he had been kicked off the force for demanding sexual favors from a women under home detention whom he was supervising.

“You need to review your definition of “vile police corruption””

Please read post #59 in this thread. There is way more to this City than this incident shows.

We have operations just like that to catch drug dealers, prostitutes, even homos in the bathroom. Nothing wrong with citizens out protecting the rest of us from bad cops. That’s one less that good people have to watch out for.

I don't blame you. I think that most every person applying for a job in law enforcement is a stone cold nut.

In fact, anyone applying for the job ought to be denied on that basis alone: You're either crazy for wanting this job, or you're a crook with something up your sleeve.

Thanks for the reminder.

live in STL metro, this little township St George is no city. The population may be 1,500 at most. The city hall and police department work out of a converted home. No other departments. The only descent thing the keystone cops due that is patrol a high volume street and keep the speed limit under control. Something St Louis County police could/would never due. This township/police department needs to be dissolved.

that being said. This punk said on radio today he does have a court date coming up on a different issue. From what I heard, he did a U-turn in front of a police officer several months ago. When he showed up for court, that particular officer was a no show.

What goes around comes around. He picked the wrong city. Instead of the judge throwing out the case he postponed till later date. See, he did this in city of St Louis. The police department is under staffed and overwhelmed. The courts knowing this tend to give 2nd chance for police to make court dates.

This kid said he did a u-turn in front of police but it was beyond 50ft, which he said was within the law. WTF, who would due this in front of police and then quote what the legal limit was?

Me thinks that when court date comes. The officer (female) will be there with extreme support. The judge will give max fine.

would be nice to see this BOY spend 1 night in jail. Bet this white boy gets scared straight.

Will keep FReeper informed on anything new on this hopefully dying incident. these two are a couple of Hoosiers.

Yeah, he needs to be taught to cower in fear in front of John Law.

Hey, maybe he’ll even get knifed or something, receive some justice for that poor aggrieved officer who was just protecting the streets from guys with cameras!! Maybe THEN he will learn not to speak back to policemen!

I once called Dallas PD to report that I’d shot a man who tried to carjack me. The ambulance got there in 2 minutes. The police didn’t show up for 15.

You tell me again about the cops being right there.

Heh heh! I guess he thinks he knows the law. Maybe he has a copy of the statute on one of his secure servers!

would be nice to see this BOY spend 1 night in jail. Bet this white boy gets scared straight.

But it won't happen over these two incidents. And he definitely got the best of Officer Keuhnlein in that encounter.

Kuehnlein himself pleaded guilty of assault and stealing in two different cases, in 1988 and 1990. He successfully petitioned a judge in St. Louis County in 1998 to expunge his criminal record, which was making it hard for him to get work as a cop.

The judge ordered those records sealed, as well as records of an acquittal for drunken driving and an assault arrest that did not result in charges.

Look back at the transcript. He was made aware of the camera but threatened to tear the car apart and take care of it.

He was aware of the camera, but thought he could destroy the recording. I don't think he really understood "And they upload to secure sources" to mean that the video was being transmitted live to another destination

Check out the background of Chief of Police Uhrig from the link in post #153:

Five years ago, an administrative commission upheld an accusation that Uhrig propositioned a 17-year-old girl for sex during a traffic stop in 2000, when he was an Arnold officer.

“Pulling into a “commuter parking lot” at 2am smells of a setup.”

You really think he expected an officer to act like this or to even approach him? What the heck is wrong with pulling into a parking lot? I do it ten times a day.
