Isn't it amazing they all have more important things to do to get elected President than to meet face to face with Christian and Jewish leaders who represent millions and millions of votes?
I tell you it is gut-wrenching fear that kept them away.
They are scared to death of the questions. They're scared to death they won't have a good answer. They're scared to death they might say something they will live to regret.
So, all four of the "front-runners" have decided "to play it safe."
Playing it safe means not showing up, making excuses for their absence and hoping they really can take all those values voters for granted. Surely, they will not vote for Hillary! Surely, they won't sit on their hands.

I know your excuse. Hogwash. No one saw the gay themed debate - yet ALL the Democratic front runners showed up to answer questions. People will still be there. They're going to note who showed up and who was absent.

Reducing your argument to “but the democrats went to the gay debate”, dang dude....
Here is my opinion on them missing this debates, I don't care. I’m not watching it, and I don't base my support or opposition to our candidates on a single issues like weather or not they went to the values voters debate.

Someone who is a conservative has nothing to be afraid of in courting conservatives. Especially social conservatives. When the GOP hustles for votes from these folks during the campaign season and then doesn't deliver on its promises, people get cynical. They may not vote for the Democrats but if they're not excited, they won't show up in the voting booth. The current field doesn't leave conservatives enthused for next fall.

That would be hard to know unless you could read their minds. I think the questions to Rudy are more than obvious and the rest would know what they fear better than we would. That is more likely a question for them.

You're a stinking liar! And you are a deluded apologist who should know better after the betrayals of the previous RINOs we've nominated.

We'll see next week. That it isn't important you doesn't mean its not important to other people.

Well, let me rephrase that...
Why is Fred Thompson neglecting this debate? This is one that would bring him home to the conservatives and advance his lead in the polls (not a poll person, but you have to go by perceptions).

I think you're right. If conservatives vote to nominate a Bush retread, they will get Hillary. I abhor that prospect. I'm glad Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo saw fit to participate in the debate. They know these conservative voters are important. Those issues are important to America's future.
You're right...in fact, as I've stated elsewhere, unless those issues are adequately addressed in 2008, America doesn't have a future. 2/5 or 3/5 simply isn't going to get it done this time around. We must send someone into a general election that's every bit the conservative as Hillary is the liberal.

Not only that, since he's dodged all the other debates, this would actually have given him a chance to participate in one.

Since when is this the debate to end all debates ?
I think there will be plenty of time to get the views of all the candidates .

Well if he is a conservative, he already knows what he thinks, right? He has gone through campaign staff like McDonald’s goes through night shift employees and if he isn’t in it now, he never will be.
I thought that is what all the waiting was about? You know so Fred could get it together? I thought that is what CFR was all about, just a fancy debate club? Hmmmm, you would think members of a fancy debate club would want to do some debating?

Let's wait before we shooting him - or them. It may be that, with everyone wanting to put on a debate - or maybe the arrangements weren't made in time for the candidates who may have already had commitments.
It's been wall to wall debates for months now - how may debates must there be?
There had been and will be plenty of opportunity for us all to see and hear the candidates and know where they're coming from - for several more LOOOOOONNNNNGG months.
The debates have turned into little more than dog and pony shows...
