Yesterday Was My Last Day With The Duncan Hunter Campaign (John Hawkins)

If you're wondering why I had guest bloggers for the last couple of days, it was because my time with the Duncan Hunter campaign was winding down and I wanted to take a little extra time to get the loose ends sewed up before I left.
Also, it's worth noting that it was a friendly, planned exit. In fact, I put in my notice roughly 30 days ago. As to why, well you have to understand: when I started, I only intended to work for 90 days. However, before it was over, I ended up working with the campaign as a blog consultant for six months.
During that time, the Duncan Hunter campaign did more to reach out to bloggers than any other candidate.
We did 3 blogger teleconferences, put together a video aimed at conservatives on the net, and we did a considerable number of guest blogs, columns, and interviews (There are actually still a few in the works that were set up before I left)
Guest Blogs/Columns
On Duncan Hunter's candidacy at Blogs for Bush.
On the surge at Captain's Quarters.
On Compean and Ramos at Human Events.
On obstructionist Democrats at Human Events.
On the fence at Human Events.
On Israel at Little Green Footballs.
On Compean and Ramos at Polipundit.
On fiscal conservatism at Porkbusters.
On the Fairness Doctrine at the Power Line Candidate Forum.
On the Senate immigration bill at Redstate.

Additionally, I had an opportunity to set up our YouTube page, MySpace page, & our final Facebook page, along with helping out on the website -- among other duties.
It was a great experience, I enjoyed it a lot, and now, more than ever, I am convinced that Duncan Hunter would be the best candidate that the GOP could run in 2008. Not only is he the most conservative candidate and the man whose views match up the best with the base, I believe that he would be the most electable candidate that we could run.
Still, I'm a blogger who consults on the side, not a consultant who blogs on the side, and so, with it getting later in the campaign season, I felt like I needed to go ahead and leave the campaign so that I could talk about the 2008 race in the homestretch without people having to wonder if I could speak honestly with my boss in the running.
PS: Speaking of that, in the future, I will mention that I used to consult for Duncan Hunter when I write about him, but I will no longer mention the consulting gig at the end of my posts in other circumstances (although I will add something to the FAQ about it).

I know the myspace and facebook groups are constantly growing. I’m glad to see so many young adults taking a decidedly conservative turn.

Without a doubt. We're being offered the media anointed choices of three flavors of status quo and a Hillary clone. Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo would both make excellent presidents. I think Hunter's the more complete package, however.

I believe that he would be the most electable candidate that we could run. I agree with this. It's frustrating to me that he gets so little media attention. Usually, when I say that, people respond "Well he's at 1% in the polls!" but I think that begs the question: If people knew more about him wouldn't he be higher in the polls?
I'm paranoid enough to think that the media considers him a threat and tries to ignore him, in hopes that the conservative base doesn't get too excited about him.

Yes, and one of Conservative Babes of the Week, Cassy Fiano, is a twentysumthin up and coming blogger. Not only a huge Hunter fan, but a hot chile pepper too.

I know the dems are scared of him. He regularly uses them as punching bags on the House floor and they have no way to counter him.

The media is the key. John McCain is still in the top tier for no other reason than the media wants him there. Fortunately I'm not a herd voter and don't care who the media wants me to vote for.

My brother (a moonbat) often says that "McCain is really popular. Don't you think he'll be the Republican nominee?" I always tell him that the only people who like McCain are the Democrats and the media (which is the same thing) and that on election day, even they won't pull the lever for McCain. The man has no support at all. It's a media concoction.
I've had this discussion with my brother multiple times. He is always surprised.

Like Bernie Goldberg says of the media in regard to the Nixon election. His media friends were astounded that he won because they didn’t know anyone who voted for him. And he won BIG.

And he did 3 months more than he signed on for. I think he feels freer to promote Hunter on his blog now.

John McCain will stay in the top tier until if or when he drops out. MSM loves all the open borders CFRers and wants nothing to do with Hunter for that reason, IMO.
As far as name recognition goes, from my experience, Fred is no more well known than Duncan Hunter. I’ve asked everyone I know family and friends, my young adult sons and their friends and many people, like doctors, store clerks, pharmacists, women’s groups I attend....do any of them know who Fred Thompson is...no. I say, he’s running for President...no. I say he’s on television, Law and Order. Which one is he?, what does he look like? they always ask.
Now, this weekend I’ll be in Knoxville and Kingsport Tennessee. I’m attending a wedding with many, many relatives from the area. Of course they’ll know who he is, I just can’t wait to get the feedback, especially from my uncles and several cousins who are a former judge and attorneys, respectively.

Personally I don’t think people who aren’t actually in the race should be included in the polls anyway. All that does is drive results for the American idle crowd who would vote for Sanjaya simply because they know his name.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU for using “begging the question” correctly!
The way it’s misused as a stand-in for “raising the question” makes my teeth hurt.
