In today's NY Post, Charles Hurt reports about this subject via a discussion with a Thompson adviser.
One Thompson adviser dismissed the notion that somehow Abraham will slow down the nascent campaign.
"Spence is not going to be the campaign manager," the adviser said. "He won't be running anything."
That job will be in the hands of Randy Enwright, a veteran Florida Republican who is widely respected and also once ran the GOP in Iowa.

Gee, you mean all of Fred’s campaign staff don’t have perfect ideology. And here I thought everyone who supported Fred was perfect. Oh well, next candidate.
Ah, politics ......
So some people can stop being hysterical?

Hopefully this will calm some people down. Fred has been very strong in his support for securing our borders, so it doesn't make sense that he'd let Abraham walk in and change those views."
It'll calm some folks down. For others that is doubtful.
I can see it now... “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer...”
“Spence is not going to be the campaign manager,” the adviser said. “He won’t be running anything.”
Ok. I am one knee-jerk unappeasable that is happy to hear this.
Good grief! Fred had better get with the program soon. I’ve read that Abraham IS going to be the campaign manager OR the campaign chairman, and then I’ve read that oh, nooooo, he’s not. He’s just somehow tangled up in Mr. Thompson’s plans but let’s just keep everyone confused and frustrated. I want to hear from Mr. Thompson’s own mouth what the heck is going on and what his plans are....IN DETAIL. Unfortunately, finding the truth to it all on FR has become almost impossible with everyone vying for their chosen candidates. Pass the aspirin...
Don’t you wonder why this “adviser” doesn’t have a name? I’d be “happy to hear this”, if I could believe anything I’m reading lately. We don’t know if or what is true right now. Personally, I’m going to stay on the fence.
Precisely. First he did, then he didn’t. Another source says he’s go to co-chair. Spin, Fred, Spin!
It doesn’t take much of an imagination to be thinking that the reason Abraham is and/or is not going to be an integral part of Thompson’s campaign is that even on THIS issue they’re not committing themselves because they’re still testing the waters. I think they want to see how upset the Thompson supporters will be if they run with Abraham. And THAT makes me doubt Fred’s integrity. He either supports his decision to hire Abraham 100% or he doesn’t.
From The Politico’s original July 24 article:
“The day-to-day campaign will now be run by Randy Enwright, a Florida consultant who was the political director. And former Sen. Spencer Abraham (R-Mich.) will be the chairman, acting as the campaigns ambassador to official Washington.”
“The campaign’s ambasssador to official Washington” sure sounds like a glorified fund-raiser to me.
"The campaigns ambasssador to official Washington" sure sounds like a glorified fund-raiser to me.From NBC (via dhgrassrevolt.wordpress.com):
...Former US Senator Spencer Abrahams role is being compared to the way Don Evans served George W. Bush as a confidant/counselor in 1999 and 2000.A pro-CAIR, pro-"open borders" guy ANYWHERE in the Fred campaign is disturbing.
Let us hope that YOU, however, are more correct than NBC.
