Abortion - Don't just hold Rudy and Mitt accountable, remember Fred
Spark it Up ^ | June 24, 2007

We are holding Rudy and Mitt to the fire about their past on abortion. Lets not forget Fred Thompson.

Abortions should be legal in all circumstances as long as the procedure is completed within the first trimester of the pregnancy. Link

A very strong statement from Fred Thompson when he was running for congress.

“Or, because we don’t want our standard bearer to be an ineffectual communicator who has demonstrated a lack of ability to LEAD and PERSUADE people, and who would lose to the Dem, even if we all agreed to support him as you wish.”

Are you nuts? Whenever Duncan Hunter is given the opportunity, he always impresses people. The problem is that the MSM won’t give him any air time. They would rather focus on the big RINOs: Giuliani, McCain, Romney, and Thompson.

And what makes you think that he would lose to the rat nominee? If the American people are given a choice between a solid, patriotic conservative and someone like the beast or Hussein Osama, they will choose the conservative.

“I think Fred is not only BETTER, but he will be a MORE EFFECTIVE CONSERVATIVE LEADER, that Hunter would be even if elected.”

Unless he decides to betray us again, like he did with McCain-Feingold...

...so now trolling means pointing out the statements of politicians who might be running for president.

Once again I point out that Mr. Thompson has "said" nothing to imply that he supports first term abortions. On the contrary, this "words" and "voting records" support life and State's Rights to impose any bans on abortion.

Your approach to bolster the candidacy of Mr. Hunter should focus on the highlights of the candidate, not belittle the candidacy of others.

You might want to read the thread again.

Hunter voted for 527 restriction legislation. Your point is?

You might want to read the thread again.

You posted ONE survey that essentially has no credibility. Perhaps it is you that should reread the thread again.

Do you disagree with Federalism and State's Rights? Now here in our Constitution is abortion mentioned...it is a State's Right issue.

No, the problem is that the Hunter campaign failed to harness the widespread grassroots support he had early this year. Don't blame the MSM for that. Fred has come up with ways to get his message direct to the people.

>> Doesn't matter what Thompson said about abortion back then. His voting record, 100% pro-life and 0% from NARAL, is all that matters. <<

True, actions speak louder than words. By Fred's actions in Congress, I am confident he is solid on life issues wouldn't go wobbly on abortion bills.

Also by Fred's ACTIONS in Congress (D rating for "Reducing Incentive for Illegal Alien Amnesties"), I'm convinced he is weak on immigration, does not support cracking down on employers, and WOULD cave on giving illegals a "path towards citizenship". His actions from 1994-2006 on this issue speak alot more loudly than an 11th hour statement on immigration he makes in 2007.

“So what? Mitt Romney made his statements in support of abortion a long time ago”

Not so long ago and Mitts’ statements change depending on the office he is running for.

I imagine if you go back 40 or 50 years you might even find enough information to make Reagan look like Ted Kennedy but it WILL NOT MAKE Duncan Hunter POTUS.

Yeah, that's why he has a zero voting record from NARAL and Planned Parenthood.

Y'all are getting completely unprincipled with your attacks on Fred.

This is not to say John McCain is the best candidate in the race, but if we go by the FredHeads claims that Fred's "record" in the Senate makes him a "true conservative", then John McCain is a "true conservative"

McCain would be a halfway decent conservative if it were not for his stance on illegal immigration.

Fred would be a great consevative in the primary if not for his record on immigration. You can spin it all you want, Fred's record is the Senate was weak on ILLEGAL aliens. If Fred's immigration record looked like Hunter's, Tancredo's, or the OTHER Thompson, I'd seriously consider supporting him.

And I don't care what his "new" position on amnesty is in 2007. I trust converions on the road to Damacus, not Des Moines.

Fred is for border security first, which is sane. McCain is pushing shamnesty.

It's telling that you cannot tell the difference. But, then again, you are pushing a guy with the charisma of a rutabega.

If you bother to examine the trend of Fred's votes over time, he has taken a harder stance against illegal immigration.

I don’t watch the MSM (your complaint seems like whining, since the MSM reports on those who are leading in the polls, and not those who “ought” to be popular.)

I follow what is said and reported on the Internet, and Fred has waxed Hunter’s tail in that respect. Where are all the posts of what Hunter is writing today about important issues?

>>And what makes you think that he would lose to the rat nominee?

Because if he can’t energize more than a couple percent of the GOP, he’ll have a hard time with the essential moderate voters.

I give Hunter 8 years, and he’d better be a bit more prominent in the meantime. Would be happy to support someone like him, if he can credibly explain and repudiate his big spending habits (like Fred has explained his past support of CFR).

Well, in his defense, he appeared to prefer a number of limits on the procedure back in 1994. Compare that to any of the Ds.

Rachel, good points, and it goes farther than that. Hunter failed to capitalize on the Internet, instead thinking that the MSM was going to give him some time. When he finally created his website, it looked like something out of the 80s. There were no links to donate, no bumper stickers, the famous quotation mark grammar error etc.

And you will NOT believe how much he PAID for that god-awful website either...

Inept is the word that describes his campaign and thus by default the man.

But forget the web and MSM... he was EARLY and thus had a chance to just flat out ORGANIZE the grassroots... but his campaign manager is totally opposed to that kind of strategy... thus he had three strikes and after the straw poll, should be out of the running.

Look, FRiend... I like what Duncan stands for... but the MSM has ZERO to do with the fact that while he was one of the FIRST to announce he did ZERO and has DONE ZERO on the grassroots side of things... he has NOTHING, flat out NADA ZIPPO in Iowa, NH or SC.

Where as if he would have done 1/10 of what Romney has done... organizationally speaking... he would BE in the TOP 5 and Thompson may have NEVER thought about running. But Hunter BLEW IT and is to this very HOUR blowing it... He and his whine about the media like RON PAUL’ers... only worse... at least THEY have some national grassroots...

Hunter’s campaign does not BELIEVE in grassroots and thus is... well... about over. Sorry to tell ya.
