Abortion - Don't just hold Rudy and Mitt accountable, remember Fred
Spark it Up ^ | June 24, 2007

We are holding Rudy and Mitt to the fire about their past on abortion. Lets not forget Fred Thompson.

Abortions should be legal in all circumstances as long as the procedure is completed within the first trimester of the pregnancy. Link

A very strong statement from Fred Thompson when he was running for congress.

He has wasted opportunity after opportunity, he has neglected his base of natural volunteers around the country, he has not fundraised to even the degree to which any other candidate has... he is dead last.

Rachel, good points, and it goes farther than that. Hunter failed to capitalize on the Internet, instead thinking that the MSM was going to give him some time. When he finally created his website, it looked like something out of the 80s. There were no links to donate, no bumper stickers, the famous quotation mark grammar error etc.

Plus he declared way too early. How can someone declare their candidacy for the Presidency when the mid-terms weren't even done yet? He should have simply waited until April or May and the grassroots would have responded.

And finally, the man has been in Congress for 26 years. He couldn't have at least ran for CA Governor or challenged Feinstein or Boxer for the Senate? If he had he would have likely won.

I will support the candidate who is most committed to conservative beliefs. Is that hard to understand? If Fred Thompson is that candidate, I will support him.

Look; I agree that the idea of there being a rule where you can’t criticize a candidate is pretty crappy. But if you want to criticize Fred Thompson, abortion isn’t the issue to point at.

Instead, we can be talking about trade policy. Duncan Hunter is against having American jobs go overseas so that China can be wealthy enough to buy submarines. And on illegal immigration, Fred Thompson has supported increases in foreign farm workers and increases in US visas, which cost American workers, especially highly skilled and educated Americans, their jobs.

On abortion, though; I’m sorry to say but I think Thompson’s pretty solid.

He is the most conservative candidate and all conservatives should support him in the primary.

Bull. Both Tancredo and Paul have better records than Hunter. Paul also served in the military. Tancredo owns the illegal immigration issue.

And therein lies Hunter's problem. Both Tancredo & Paul are going take away conservative/libertarian votes away from him in the primaries. The best move Hunter should do is quit and join the Fred team and hope he gets picked as VP or Secretary of Defense. Remember he's not running for Congress again.

In short, Duncan Hunter is without question the most politically naive and incompetent man running.

BS!

He is the most "under rated, under MSM promoted, formidable candidate out there.

However since when he does get a chance to show himself, he is what a POTUS should be and is laid back and lets others speak their mind, for this he is considered naive?

When he can speak he does make sense and is impressive.

JMO.

Will you support Fred Thompson if he wins the nomination? If you refuse again, you are disqualified from serious debate for lack of objectivety, among other possibilities.

That would depend on what he says after he actually enters the campaign and participates in debates. It would also depend a great deal on who he chooses as his vice presidential candidate...Eight years is a long time, and there's no guarantee that someone with cancer (even if it's in remission) will be able to serve that long.

Not while Daniel James Barnett is in the race

I do like Duncan Hunter, but would have to agree with all of these points...PLUS...he has been less than stellar in the debates, he's had some chances to step up, and has not.

A good man, a very good man...but not a President IMO.

But if he were nominated, I would actively support him, which is more than a certain 'other' one here would say...and most likely, wouldn't do.

Another newbie, Dummie disruptor, pretending to support unelectable Hunter in order to undermine Fearsome Fred!

So then why do the high and mighty fredbots spam Duncan Hunter threads with “he’s unelectable”, “he should be Freds VP”, and the classic “Duncan Who”? Could it be because they are trying to prop up their less than stellar conservative?

Or, because we don’t want our standard bearer to be an ineffectual communicator who has demonstrated a lack of ability to LEAD and PERSUADE people, and who would lose to the Dem, even if we all agreed to support him as you wish.

I think Fred is not only BETTER, but he will be a MORE EFFECTIVE CONSERVATIVE LEADER, that Hunter would be even if elected.

Pointing out lack of electability is not like trying to drive a wedge between you and you guy with dubious “news.”

Fred Thompson has a 100 percent pro-life voting record and has been endorsed by Right To Life.

Yet remarkably, Fred manages to present the issue in a way that is not threatening, and attractive to the middle, even though it is the same position that Republican candidates have been uttering for years.

Somehow, the effort against abortion will probably be more effective with “Gee, let’s just let the people of each state CHOOSE what kind of laws they want, and get the federal government out of it,” than with “abortion is murder, you’re all going to hell!”

Again, HE THINKS OR DID THINK THAT ABORTION SHOULD REMAIN LEGAL IN THE FIRST TRIMESTER OF PREGNANCY.

You sure he wasn’t talking about Federal restrictions, as opposed to state restrictions?

Ever hear of Federalism?
