As Former Senator and possible Presidential candidate Fred Thompson continues to build momentum towards a 2008 presidential campaign, other candidates are beginning to take note, and prepare. Thompsons sterling conservative record is hard to dispute so, it seems that his primary opponents are already looking to temper and dilute his record through affiliation.
A friend of mine in DC recently notified me of increased focus from the McCain campaign on Fred Thompsons 2000 endorsement of John McCain...

Thats what I am reading too. That McCain intends to use Thompson’s endorsement of him to prove Thompson is unfit for the office of President.
I told you McCain was crazy.
McCain’s been dead to me since he trashed Rummy. What he says and does are of zero interest. Fred, though, is riveting.
This has false front 527 all over it.”
Sure as heck does!
"Why vote for a guy who endorsed a crazy guy when you can vote vote for the crazy guy himself"
if we could just shorten it, it'd be a good McCain '08 slogan.
He should be scared sh*tless.
Non starter, they will have to do better than that.
In 2000 McLame hadn’t racked up a record as a Judas and loose cannon collaborating goofball yet.
No. He did that with McCain-Feingold, SIGNED INTO LAW BY BUSH II.
Source?
“He’s a very close friend ... We see each other frequently.” Asked if he would lose some supporters to a Thompson bid, McCain paused, then admitted, “I don’t know.”

I was curious myself. So far, closest to the everyday phone thing I could find.
BEST line of the day:)
Fred—how about Jim Inhofe as a running mate?
Fred Thompson is going to be on Hannity & Colmes tonight along with Sharpton(Yuck) and Dick Morris (Yuck.
From the Weekly Standard 4/23/07
Thompson was one of four senators to support McCain in 2000 and served as the national co-chairman of his campaign. So I asked him why he’s not supporting McCain again.
“You know the old joke about—what about me? As self-centered as that sounds, and it is, that ought to be the way it is.” He adds: “Besides, you can’t predict what’s going to happen anyway, with any of them. Anybody could implode. Anybody could take off.”
Before his appearance on Fox News Sunday, Thompson called McCain to let him know that he would announce that he was seriously considering a presidential bid. The conversation was friendly. “If we do this,” he says, “we’ll remain friends and we’ll be friends after this.”

So what if Fred supported McCain then. In 2000 Fred wasn’t considering a run himself.
I heard that Thompson will be teaming up with McCain, opting for the VP spot.
Are you serious? I thought that was the case for a long time but lately it seems like he’s getting pushed by people into going for the BIG JOB and he is going to go for it.
Time will tell. :-)
So True! :-)
