So many Byzantine artifacts have been destroyed especially but not exclusively by the Muslim Turks. It’s really a loss for all humanity.

Fortunately this mosaic rests in The Basilica of San Vitale which was safely far away from the ravages done by Muslims.

It wasn't that far away. Had the Turks won at Malta in 1565 or Lepanto in 1571, Ravenna, and all of Italy, would have been in the crosshairs.

I'm still hoping that one of the medallions struck in commemoration of Belisarius's triumph over the Vandals will be found someday...
