We all know about "limosine liberals" and "San Francisco liberals" and "east coast liberals" and "Hollywood liberals" and we all say we are against them. So, why is it that we seem to have a new breed of liberalism that is festering on a conservative forum?
By my calculations it is a small number (only about 15%) of FReepers that seem to be supporting a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual marriage, thrice-married (once to his cousing) gun-grabber for the office of President of the United States of America. And I'll be the first to admit that many of them are supporting Giuliani because they think he is the only Republican who can win. However, what about those FReepers who seem totally comfortable with Rudy's liberalism? In her book Treason, Ann Coulter describes in detail how communists infiltrated the Democrat Party and my fear is that decades from now, someone will describe how liberals infiltrated and destroyed conservativism in the name of pragmatism.
We all know that there are liberals here and I'm pretty certain that they aren't going anywhere. As a conservative, I know that conservativism consists of a belief in a strong national defense, fiscal conservativism and social conservativism, so to call these FReepers conservatives in name only (CINOs) would be incorrect because many of these FReepers don't even claim to be social conservatives. So, my question is this:
WHAT SHOULD WE CALL FREE REPUBLIC LIBERALS?
And fratricide. We need more fratricide to build the GOP. Also, we need more people to ignore Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment. (True conservatives know what it is, I don't need to post it)
You can call me "sir."
Single-issue pro-abortion zealots.
It ain't catchy, but it's the truth. And it's everything they've been accusing their opponents of being for years.
:-)
What the hell, they're calling us "kool-aid drinkers" now.
Bleepers?
Seriously, I think they contribute to the debate.
That's what liberals do, project themselves onto others.
free republic liberals...
I don't know but it seems to me that Rudy has become the new Terry Schiavo of Free Republic. At this point I would even welcome a few threads about Anna Nicole or Britany Spears.
Why "call" them anything Waggy? They are our opponents. The enemy in many cases.
Hope you are'nt threatened by their presence, cause things might wind down to zero without their silly games and ploys.
What's the big deal about name-calling anyhow.
Adults who are fairly secure in their own maturity and sanity are usually not bothered by creeps and juviniles...we actually have a few of our own who invariably reveal sanity gaps on a regular basis.
We often surf their turf to get some idea of the idiocy they openly are brewing...so what the hay?
It'll be amusing to review the list of perjoratives you are accumulating. Let's see if "fellow Americans" make your cut.
Look, the thinking on Rudy is simple: He can beat Hillary. Whatever his flaws, some FReepers think beating Hillary is so important that they will turn to any Man on Horseback who presents himelf, be he a tyrant or a liberal.
Personally, I no longer think it makes any difference who holds the Presidency - as we are currently seeing, The Agenda will not be impacted. So you might as well vote your conscience.
I almost certainly will support another candidate in the primaries. If, however, Rudy Giuliani is the nominee of the Republican Party, especially if the other side nominates Hillary Clinton, I will work my gluteal area off for his election and vote for him without any question. Period.
Somebody wants to call me a liberal, take your best shot. The only person I have to convince of my conservatism is the one who looks back at me in the morning when I apply Nivea shaving cream to my face and employ my Bic disposable razor.
Somebody wants to say I'm sacrificing principle, again take your best shot. My only comment would be that the spectre of a Hillary Clinton presidency with a Democratic Congress is enough to make me unwilling to fall on my sword like Saul and opt out of the process or toss away my vote on a third- or fourth-party candidate for any one or two or three single issues, social or otherwise.
I'll put it this way. If 50 percent of what I want in my heart of hearts is the best I can get ... the absolute, bottom line best I can get ... then do I take that and make the best of it, or do I risk getting stuck with zero percent by holding out for the unachievable 100 percent?
FRinos
Democrats?
That's who's platform they are supporting...
And President Reagan, God rest his soul, wouldn't issue the 11th Commandment if he were alive today. He'd go to the RNC and start kicking asses.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
I am not a liberal. Never have been since a brief period right after college. (See the Winston Churchill quote about being 30 and then being 40.)
Is Guiliani MY candidate if I had absolute free choice in the world? Of course not. But after involvement in more than a hundred political campaigns of various types since 1976, I have learned to have a passing understanding of political reality.
Since I have worked for/with more than ten third-party candidates, I can guarantee that no third party regardless of ideology or candidate, has the time and resources to mount a campaign that will amount to a hill of beans. This election will be determined between the Republican and Democrat candidates.
If present trends hold, and that's a medium-sized if, my choice, your choice, and everyone else's choice will be between Guiliani and Clinton (her). If that comes to be, and you want to pretend that it makes no difference which one wins, I pity you for your total failure of political perception.
Because my primary interest is the kind of judges a President will nominate to the Supreme Court and other federal courts, I would have no trouble with that choice. Neither should most members of the FR community.
Congressman Billybob
Frankly, I could not care less what Rudy thinks about abortion or homosexuality.
I do care that we get a President who will not surrender in the Middle East and who will provide tax cuts and smaller government.
I really hope this party does not get waylaid by the zealots this time.
