We all know about "limosine liberals" and "San Francisco liberals" and "east coast liberals" and "Hollywood liberals" and we all say we are against them. So, why is it that we seem to have a new breed of liberalism that is festering on a conservative forum?
By my calculations it is a small number (only about 15%) of FReepers that seem to be supporting a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual marriage, thrice-married (once to his cousing) gun-grabber for the office of President of the United States of America. And I'll be the first to admit that many of them are supporting Giuliani because they think he is the only Republican who can win. However, what about those FReepers who seem totally comfortable with Rudy's liberalism? In her book Treason, Ann Coulter describes in detail how communists infiltrated the Democrat Party and my fear is that decades from now, someone will describe how liberals infiltrated and destroyed conservativism in the name of pragmatism.
We all know that there are liberals here and I'm pretty certain that they aren't going anywhere. As a conservative, I know that conservativism consists of a belief in a strong national defense, fiscal conservativism and social conservativism, so to call these FReepers conservatives in name only (CINOs) would be incorrect because many of these FReepers don't even claim to be social conservatives. So, my question is this:
WHAT SHOULD WE CALL FREE REPUBLIC LIBERALS?
"The conservative extremist wing in here has taken on the persona of the Taliban."
And: They insult and question veteran Freepers because they happen to pass on drinking the Koolade every time it's offered."
This DCProfiteer is, as mentioned, self-described as hopelessly liberal. He has admitted on other threads to hiring illegals in his small business and to profiting from them.
When asked to comment on the significantly high numbers of illegals in our prisons (and their American victims), the dozens and dozens of US hospitals that have been forced to close because the illegals drained their funds and the thousands and thousands of American school children who have seen their resources and funds diverted to accommodate the illegals his response was...and this is a quote...
YAWN
Challenge him in any way and he resorts to the above 'cool-aid drinkers', taliban or moron, racist, bigot, xenophobe and then wimpers to the AM that he's being picked on.
DCprofiteer may be a 'veteran freeper' but he is an uber-liberal who is selling his country down the river for a few bucks.
I pretty much figured you would be on the side of civil debate, so I pinged you to view my response to Chickensoup. That was the only reason I copied you...
It is appearing that there are sooooooo many verifiable descriptions of liberals in conservative clothing now posting on FR that the Administrator should put "Hazmat Alarm" on their posts, thereby relieving all of us from the aggravation of bothering to read their trash.
In April I will go away, to far-off Spain or old Bombay,
And dream about hot soup all day.
Oh my once, oh my twice, oh my chicken soup with rice.
Dude, that is AWESOME...:)
That looks like fun... how old is she?
What I'm saying is that his situation was not a Bill Clinton, JFK, Gavin Newsom situation. What I'm especially saying is that the fact that this guy unknowingly married his cousin has no place as a talking point in this election and I can't imagine any voter either giving the slightest crap about it or thinking favorably of people who advance it as an argument against his fitness to be president.
No, you miss my point. There might be a lot of people saying "I won't vote for Rudy" but trust me, the next 20 months of Hillary campaigning will concentrate the mind.
Give me a bloody break.
Exactly. When I bring those names up, I sometimes hear the response that they're Democrats. Well, the important thing is that two of them were President of the United States.
Conservatism wins and leadership wins, and because the top guys in our Congress got us shellacked after failing to lead and failing to be conservative, there are people ready to bail on what works.
BTW, You can add Paul Tsongas to that list of unknowns, though obviously he wasn't the nominee. But everybody knew who he was by the time the primary season was rolling in '92.
The next election is the election of the commander-in-chief in a time of existential war. A Rudy vs. Hillary or Rudy vs. Obama election is what the 1944 election would have been if Thomas Dewey was the head of the German-American Bund.
I do not want Rudy Giuliani to be the GOP nominee and if he is president the country will regret it. However, if Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama is the president, they will get people killed (a lot of people) and almost certainly lose this war. I have absolutely no doubt of that fact.
So yeah, it is your vote, but it's also my free speech right to tell people who use their vote to help Hillary that they are putting the future of our nation in danger. If you go in the voting booth and pull the lever to send some "message" you had better have a figure in your mind, and that figure is the number of American lives you are willing to sacrifice for ideological purity. That is not a talking point, that is a reality. If you don't think it is, please let me know why Hillary or Obama will be a fit C-in-C.
No offense, but I just don't get how so many people on FR don't understand how name recognition works. You know why those guys are the front-runners? Because they're all the press has been talking about, because they've been sending "I'm going to run" signals since the end of the last presidential election. So when some pollster calls people up and asks about potential GOP nominees, their names pop up.
The following people had virtually no name recognition the year before they got the nomination: Jimmy Carter, Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton, John Kerry. Virtually no one knew who Paul Tsongas, Howard Dean or John McCain were a year out from the primaries, but each of them was a household name by the end of February in the next year.
If you and I were having this conversation in February of 2008, I would be 100% with you, but it's February of 2007 and conservatives who throw up their hands now have lost not because of ideology or ability to campaign, but because we still believe the lying, puke-inducing MSM.
NO way I want a Dem in office either, the carnage overseas will only be the beginning if that happens.
It is a long way to November of '08, and frankly, I know of no other way to express my distaste for a LIBERAL Republican candidate than to vote conservative first.
This is what the primaries are for.
Saying I would vote for Rudy in the General would be nothing more than a tacit approval of Rudy as the candidate after we conservatives speak our mind (and are ignored again) during the primary season.
I am not going there.
That is the mentality which has ensured the continued drift to the left in the Republican Party, the one where conservatives "take one for the team" --again.
Enough. I for one, am done lending my support to any group which is not aligned with my politics. If the Republicans want my donations, nominate a candidate I can approve, If they want my time, find one I can get downright excited about voting for. If they want neither, Rudy is their man.

What's most surprising is that you actually have to voice this bit of common sense at all.

I was also thinking this morning about how many have tried to bring up Reagan's "don't speak ill of a fellow Republican" theme. However, that doesn't mean that he didn't believe in campaigning against them and calling them on their nonsense -- keep in mind that Reagan was the ONLY Republican in recent times to challenge an incumbent for the nomination.
I wasn't talking about the cousin comments, which are OK. I was talking about the adultery comments.
I am pretty sure you're a good man from the little I've seen, but that's just it - I hardly ever see posts from you despite your long history here, so I don't know what you think of adultery or even of Klintoon. So your length of registry here doesn't help me know anything if I don't see posts from you!
Cheers. :)
