It's about time this show comes out on DVD...
It has been over 20 years since viewers were captured by the adventures of two state motorcycle patrolmen, but now Jon Baker and Frank "Ponch" Poncharello have returned to entertain us once again with Warner Home Video's (WHV) release of CHiPs: The Complete First Season on June 5, 2007 for $39.98 SRP. The exciting action series which aired for six seasons on NBC starred Erik Estrada ("Ponch"), Larry Wilcox ("Jon Baker") and Robert Pine ("Sgt. Joseph Getraer") and had its fair share of multiple car pile-ups, high speed chases, hijacker plots and of course 1970s nostalgia. CHiPs: The Complete First Season includes all 22 episodes and all-new bonus features in a 6-disc collection.
Officer Jon Baker and his partner Frank "Ponch" Poncharello were members of CHiPs, which stood for California Highway Patrol, keeping the freeway system in and around Los Angeles a safer place for commuters. Jon Baker was the more straight-laced type, while "Ponch" was the hunky ladies man that had female fans across America going wild. Erik Estrada who played "Ponch" was the first Latino to play a policeman on TV, paving the way for other Latinos to break stereotypes in the Entertainment industry. The 1977 series had such an impact, that a film version starring Wilmer Valderrama is set to begin production this year.
"We are very excited to be releasing the first season of this memorable 1970s series." said Rosemary Markson, WHV Vice President, TV Marketing. "A staple of NBC's lineup for six seasons, CHiPs made household names out of Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox and is sure to become a fan favorite of new generations."
In addition to the entire first season of this beloved series, CHiPs: The Complete First Season contains never-before-seen special features, including:
- CHiPs: The Ride out of Spanish Harlem - A "ride" down memory lane including all-new interviews with Erik Estrada and a special look at his CHiPs memorabilia.
- All-new introductions with special trivia
- Anecdotes on selected episodes by Erik Estrada
WHAT???? WHO????
Looks like the love child of K-Fed and Mohammed Atta.
What's next, a Hollywood adaptation of "BJ and The Bear"?
LOL!
Such memories.
My friend and I used to ride our bicycles down the street at age 8 and pretend to be Ponch and Jon.
He's obviously no Ponch.
Gawd, I hated this show! Still do.
I was hoping for "Bigfoot and Wildboy".
So much for your career in public office.
the updated version will have Ponch pulling over speeding vans of illegals and then being sent to prison for doing so.
I liked it!! But then, I was in elementary school and should be forgiven.
I think I can be forgiven for what I did before age 10.
It's the stuff I got up to in college that I am worried about!
I forgive you! I was in High School and had little brothers and sisters who watched it. My family ran me out of the house with their TV viewing. Chips, The Brady Bunch, The Love Boat...arrrrgh
Da Plane. Da Plane...yeah that was right up there too.
You're right about that... I should have gone into the Witless Protection Program.
I can hardly wait for the Hollywood versions of "Punky Brewster" and "Doogie Howser, M.D."
