Conservatives are rightly worried about attempts being made now by liberal Democrats to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine. Sounds good, doesnt it this Fairness Doctrine? The only problem is that it is another attempt to shut up and shut down anyone who doesnt agree with leftist philosophy.
Lets look back: First we have a situation where most of the country does not agree with unlimited abortion. Some states were slowly changing their laws to relax some limitations on abortions, but it was clear that voters and legislatures were highly resistive to any changes. So what do liberals do? They work to put in place activist judges who will ignore the law and ignore the voters first to proclaim that first trimester abortion is legal and then they extend it to abortion on demand.

Don't worry about it, like campaign finance reform this law is unconstitutional and after Bush signs it it won't hold up. /sarcasm off
Did Nancy Pelosi give you permission to post this?
Rush has enough money to fight this.
Hannity has enough money to fight this.
This could be the biggest boon to XM/Sirius radio.
This seems to be a popular rallying cry right now, but getting it passed is going to be harder than it seems. The House would have to pass it, then the Senate(possibly back to conference if there's changes), then probably past a veto. Even if it survives that it's doubtful it would hold up in court, especially with the make up of the Supreme Court right now. True, in the future it might work, but I can't see it happening in the next two years.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. They'll most likely make non-profits exempt.
We all know how much "people making money" gets their steam up.
Wouldn't necessarily need radio to do it. Just podcast it, like they do now.
True. I would love there to be a battle about this. They can't compete on the airwaves so they want to use Gov. to shut them up.
I can not see the Supreme Court letting it stand.
I wonder if Alan Colmbes radio show would be subject to the Fairness Doctrine? Or in their eyes is his show well balanced? Or Ed Schultz?
We all thought McCain-Feingold wouldn't survive a Supreme Court challenge, too, but it did.
"This could be the biggest boon to XM/Sirius radio."
I agree. We get nothing really here after sunset on AM. I've been thinking about an XM for the long drives across state but if Rush got forced to XM I'd buy one in a heart beat.
But that kept "Big Money Interests" out of politics!!!!
(Sarcasm Lamp is lit)
Love XM Radio. When I drove from NC up to MA for my nephews graduation, it came in so handy.
I highly recomend one. I bought a small portable one. I take it to the beach with me and put the antenna on my beach chair. I listen to Red Sox games. Its great.
If they try to outlaw the first amendment, it's time to break out the second!
Ruin them first this time.
The Democrats look at the success of their compatriot Chavez in Venezuela and salivate. The left is in ascendancy in this country, and they will push their advantages with the foot to the floorboard. A dark time is coming upon the remnant in the country that still believes in freedom, while the vapid majorities will relish their enslavement and government wage guarantees and "free" health care and "free" education and "peace". This "fairness doctrine" is the least of the troubles that are coming to beseige us.
I live in a semi rural area that gets two and a half radio stations.....on a good day. Can you explain how this gadget works and whether it plays in low reception areas.
If they get their way Free Republic will be next on their hit-list.
I still don't understand why Rush, Hannity, Medved, Savage et al don't go to XM or Sirius.
They have external antennas. Not sure how remote you are but I have driven all over the Midwest and never have a problem with reception. It is satellite, so hopefully you wouldn't have problems with it. Very easy to hook up, $12.99/month for membership for 1 radio, I believe it is $6.99/month additional for the next radio.
Keep in mind you can't actually just tune in to certain stations, you only get XM programming. I strongly urge you to compare the XM vs Sirius lineups, particularly if you are interested in conservative talk.
When I purchased my XM radio, Michael Medved and Michael Savage were part of the conservative lineup- but not any more. At this point I barely use my XM. Still waiting for Rush to go XM!

I never understood that. What kind of man knowingly signs unconstitutional legislation into law, and then verbally acknowledges that he is fully aware that it is unconstitutional, and passes the buck to someone else, as if he is not guilty of subverting the Constitution?
Shameful.
