A knife would be a full-blown endorsement of withdrawal. By opposing the surge, Brownback is only differing in his tactical stance. Alas.

I think it is a knife in the back when he is willing to make it a statement of office by voting for a senate resolution. It makes me sad actually because I am a pretty ferocious prolifer and I have friends who really like Brownback.

It's not just what he said but when he said it. If he couldn't support the President on Iraq at this critical time, when the Democrats are determined to lose the war and destroy the administration, he should have just shut up.
