"Maybe we should be thinking "context" here before we fly off the handle"
Fake but accurate?
From "Jesse MacBeth", Act Two, Seen Once More
As I posted earlier, I called the funeral home. The person who answered (a woman) stated there was a family service at 9 a.m. tomorrow, and a public service at 10 a.m.
Note that in post #56 (above) Dale is said to have 3 sons; one of whom is deceased, the other two in military service. In the obituary, only two sons are mentioned; Andrew Gluszek and Dale Peters, Jr. If there was a third son who preceded her in death, why not list that in the obit? It's common practice.
Seems to me that DU is the perfect place for him!
Do you think he waited until there was someone who matched? That would explain the long delay he blamed on the coroner, but it would be a Rube Golberg way of going about it. Perhaps Janet Peters is a real relative, and he was expecting her death, but it just took longer than he expected? Perhaps there really was an investigation, but he lied about the circumstances? Hmmm...
Dig this, from the announcement of Janet's funeral that was put up on Kos by ilbear:
On Aug, 24th, 2003, after initial reports PSTD showing up in of 1 in 4 US veterans returning Iraq, Siekmann published claiming the PTSD was bogus [cant find a link to the article]. Janet and Dale went ballistic and worked successfully for Siekmanns defeat in the next election. When Janet died, Siekmann elected to hold her body for an indeterminate time. The stress his actions have placed on Dale cannot be overstated. An investigation is now in progress.
Yet, here's what the Baltimore Sun had to say about Siekmann's "next election," which was in 2004:
Pete Siekmann of West Chicago apparently will become the next coroner by defeating Democratic rival Mike Kisler, a former funeral director who lives in Westmont. Siekmann, who has worked in the coroner's office almost three decades--the last 11 as chief deputy--will succeed his boss, Richard Ballinger, who is retiring. "It feels great," Siekmann said. "I've worked at this job for 28 years and proudly served the people of DuPage County, and now I've got the opportunity to lead the pack and I really look forward to doing it."
Earlier reports about this race (such as this one) describe an amicable race where the only controversy is which experience base is better: Siekmann's as deputy coroner or Kisler's at the "executive level." Kisler even praises Siekmann for his professionalism after Kisler's sister killed herself and calls him the "best number 2 man in this business."
So, Siekmann ran two campaigns after the 2003 PTSD dustup (primary and general), but he won both of them and neither PTSD or any other vet concern was not an issue in either. Supposedly this ilbear guy knows the Peters and has worked with them long-term on many vet issues in Chicagoland, but he gets this wrong?
But wait, there's more! How could there be a PTSD dustup when Peter Siekmann has not published on the subject! Try searching on "siekmann, post traumatic" and see what you get. What you won't get is anything about Peter Siekmann and PTSD. So how did ilbear get that wrong?
Looks to me like ilbear is a Dale Peters sock puppet.
Just working and donating my time to Uncle Sam.
You know, the good news is that some soldier in Korea probably ended up with that care package. Hope she sent him good stuff!
I don't know what the policy of newspapers is when it comes to screening (or not screening) obits. It may be possible to put a false one in, or not, but there is a real body--bcsco confirmed that upthread by calling the funeral home.
Note that the obit is about the shortest possible obit and does not mention veteran activism. Hmmmm...
Well, there is an obituary. As anyone knows whose had a family member die, YOU (meaning me or whoever the person left to write the obit is) write the obituary and send it in to the paper. The paper just publishes what you send in.
They do somewhat check names since they've been scammed before but what's to say this isn't more B.S.
I get your point, but busting fake vets is always a good thing. It's even better when the fake vet is accusing a truly dedicated and competent public official of a horrible crime.
"but what's to say this isn't more B.S."
Good point.
This guy certainly wouldn't be the first to lie blatantly about his military service or lack there of.
We're dealing with that over at CU right now...plus there's always everyone's favorite war protesting "Ranger" Jesse MacBeth. *rolls eyes*
:-)
jaccuse=J'accuse
That's a possibility. Also, I don't believe 'chief deputy coroner', the post Siekmann held prior to his election in 2004, was an elected position. So 2004 was his first race. It's possible that the words 'next election' weren't a reference to there being a 'previous' election, but just that Siekmann happened to be running in the election following the supposed PSTD dust up (i.e. the 'next election') and they then campaigned against him.
But all this implies a history between Peters and Siekmann. It may/may not have anything to do with PSTD, Peters alleged wife, or whatever. But there does seem to be something that Peters has in for Siekmann. I wonder what that is?
Well, if you think about it for awhile, that's only true to a point. I confirmed there are two 'services' tomorrow. What the obit states is there's a 'memorial visitation' tomorrow. It posts the time as 9:00 a.m. which is when the family service is scheduled; not the public one which is at 10 a.m. Why not post both??????
A 'memorial visitation' implies a post-internment service so there may very well not be a body in attendance (no pun intended). OTOH, it could also be a service for a cremation, in which case the family could well provide the urn. I have a couple urns at home, here (empty, I might add), which could fill such a need. Wonder what would be in it?
Nah! I don't have time for such foolishness. At least you're thinking, though.
He supposedly lives in Bridgeport, which is in the heart of Crook County, yet he refers to the "evil Republican coroner" from DuPage County.
