Been catching up on some old and not so old movies during this Christmas TV nothing season.
This week, a review of "Cheaper by the Dozen -2".
As a child I loved the book. I'm not at all sure Steve Martin captures the spirit of the book's character.
And a short touch on a movie about those Australian parents whose baby was killed by a dingo. The movie did not deal at all with that possible True Crime in terms of parents as perpetrators rather than a dingo.

I, too, loved that book as a kid...and I don't think the Steve Martin movie has anything to do with the book...personally.
Wow, I am delighted to find another reader of the original book.
Wasn't that father a most delightful man?
The movie? Eh....they're never like the book I don't suppose.
Father was wonderful...and he was portrayed so well in the original movie. Have you read the sequel to the first book?
The first Steve Martin "Cheaper By The Dozen" movie was ok, but the second one, flat out stunk.
I love Steve Martin, but most of his recent movies (Sgt Bilko anyone?) have been horrible.
Two things:
1-You make me have to check out the original movie.
2-Goodness, Cheaper by the Dozen had a sequel? Well I gotta check it out!
Sequel: "Bells On Their Toes" or something like that!
oops, "Belles On Their Toes" 1952
I agree with LiteKeeper. The only similarity the movie had to the book was the title.
The book is a joy to read!
Father was Clifton Webb.
And he played Gilbreath, a man obsessed with time efficiency. An industrial engineer, I believe.
His wife became a Time "Man of the Year" for taking over her dead husband's work.
I haven't seen either, but it's clear Steve Martin is NOT doing a cover of the actual life of the industrial engineer.
His "cover" of "Out-of-Towners" was a joke, too. While it can't be said to be as divergent as "CBTD", it was way divergent in details.
And the REAL "Out-of-Towners" is hysterical!
