Danny DeVito's disgraceful performance on "The View."
the clip shows him referring to the President in terms vulgar enough that they were bleeped out by ABC; what it doesn't show ...were his remarks about having sex with his wife on every surface in the Lincoln Bedroom.
Discussing the episode on today's Hugh Hewitt show, the incredibly talented James Lileks made a very perceptive remark about DeVito's comments about the Lincoln Bedroom -- to the effect that DeVito was the type of person who couldn't bear to leave anything undebased.
Absolutely true...
people like Danny DeVito have always been with us. And once upon a time, he would have been treated like the boor that he is, rather than having Rosie and the rest of the "View" gang giggling along sympathetically.
Perhaps part of the problem is that too few people are willing to take a stand about a lot of the vulgarity with which Americans are confronted on a daily basis.
Barbara Walters, the show's true and undisputed leader, is a very smart lady. She could have chosen some classy but firm way to slap down DeVito -- and it would have been courageous and right for her to have done so.
It would have demonstrated for all those women in the audience that -- while everyone is entitled to his or her opinion -- those views should be expressed with a modicum of decorum when one discusses the President and The White House on national television. What a wasted opportunity.
Just recently, Barbara Walters ran an interesting special about her 30 biggest mistakes in 30 years; it seemed admirable to me that she would be willing to critique herself so thoroughly.
It's worth wondering whether she believes letting DeVito's rant go unreproved was a mistake, as well.

. . .did she count, going on the 'View' as one of them?
That said. . .could have sworn the first time I heard/saw 'rerun' of DeVito's appearance on View; that he first was mentioning 'Clinton' . . .Oval Office activities with Monica. . .as he was directing Military Affairs. His jumping up/down; riveting up/down and with drooling smile; I assumed was the big 'I did not have 'sex' with that women. . .'act' which consequently, tainted Monica's blue dress.
. It was only later; seeing headlines/announcements of DeVito insulting Bush; that I questioned what I saw.
That said. ..still think his mentioning of Clinton. . .his 'implying' a nimble; under-the-desk performance was not in my imaginaion.
ANYone else; see. . .what I think I saw???
how did we go from bashing deviants to thinking they are cool?
LOL
"...his 'implying' a nimble; under-the-desk performance ..."
I missed that.
" how did we go from bashing deviants to thinking they are cool? "
yep
Did the dyke O'Donnell like it???? sarcasm ON!
I am not a celebrity groupie. That man looks like Jaba the Hut. Why in the world would he overnight at the WH?
No respect from the Hollywierd crowd for us, Abe Lincoln, America, themselves...
And these Hollywood loons are the first to call the President a stupid drunk
It was during the Clinton Administration
My guess there were $$ donations to Clinton involved
"these drunken idiots call the President a 'stupid drunk'!"
Proud to say I have NEVER seen one minute of "the View" or "Dr. Phil" or any other daytime crap....
Our welfare systen has allowed yet another generation to grow up in front of the boob tube, but THIS time they are being indoctrinated by the libs all day long, while we worker bees are out making a living and paying the taxes that allows them to stay home and be manipulated!
ARGH!
I think any Hollywood types were welcome at the White House while Clinton was there. I doubt they had to make a donation. Hollywood and Clinton have a mutual love affair.
I saw the clip of DeVito. I don't think he was drunk. He is a Bush hater like all the rest. He was proud he was at the WH in the good days according to him. He is a pig IMHO. What disturbed me more was the audience laughing and the rest of the panel.Isn't the White House OUR HOUSE? If the audience had a brain they would realize how insulting it was. This is the way the Dems think. Weren't the dems complaining and making fun of GW in the beginning because there were no parties at the WH and GW goes to bed early etc. No wonder I am so depressed. DeVito insults our President in a time of war on national tv and the audience laughs?
He was drunk and belching and slurring his words. What a disgusting little man. I was considering taking the kids to this movie but after watching that no way. Those women just sat there like that was perfectly normal.
BTW I could swear he was on Fox and Friends the same morning and he looked perfectly normal.
You couldn't pay me to see anything he is in ever.
I think the whole country should be furious at his abuse of the President and our White House. We are at war with people who would kill us all if they could and people laugh at his crap!!!!!
What I am trying to figure out is. ..did I? Don't have time to go back and check; but when I do. . .surely will find the answer (!?). . .
I will say, along with O'Reilly, that the left seems unhinged. Instead of being happy they are just wild and crazy and swear into every camera.
Bump George, thanks for ping!
