"Hey! Remember that cute turkey you were playing with a few days ago? Guess what? You're eating it right now!"
That and I keep think of the final few pages where the pigs are playing poker...they end up becoming what they rebelled against in the first place.
Bone weight is largely irrelevant in birds. You are paying for the labor. The producer can then send the legs to be smoked for some fair goer's kid to munch on and the rest of the bird to make over salted, mediocre turkey stock to be sold at a ridiculous price.
You would be far better buying the smallest bird you can find, carving out the breast section yourself (this takes about 45 seconds), and either making stock yourself or throwing the rest in the trash.
Making stock is a very under appreciated, easy, and cheap way to add incredible flavor to your food.
I don't want to sound like a food snob here but there are much better, easier, and cheaper ways to cook.

My brother kept trying to convince me that Rangel only proposed it because that's what Republicans really wanted to do. *rolling my eyes* That kind of reasoning makes my head hurt.
I'll make turkey stock when I get a Caja China.
Rangel was on Michael Savage last night. Mike should have been more direct in his questioning (especially the way he cuts through Republican doubletalk).
It was clear that Rangel ONLY supports the draft as a way of decreasing support for ALL wars. He's made a lot of hay out of how Congressmen would be less likely to vote for wars if their kids COULD be in line to go but he would not even consider Michael Savage's suggestion that their kids be first in line for a draft. So in the end, Congress is STILL voting to send everyone else's kids to war (or using them as bait to NOT go to war).
It sounds like you should invite me to YOUR Thanksgiving dinner next year. However, I would be a lousy guest since I suffer severely from SAD (Seasonal Affected Depression) and NJ is far enough north at this time of year to make me very sad and gloomy.
The problem here is that the legs and thighs will be slightly under done. Unless you are cooking a whole presentation bird, remove the leg/thigh units and put them in the oven about 10-15 minutes ahead of the rest of the bird.
If you like that lovely brown and crispy turkey/chicken/goose skin, thoroughly dry the bird before cooking. I use towels, paper towels and even a hair dryer. Also, run your hand gently under the skin to seperate it from the underlying breast meat but otherwise leave it in place. That skin is keeping your meat from drying out. It will also allow the fat under the skin to run off contributing to the crispyness. Rub the bird with Wesson oil and cook.

Well, at least one DUmmie is right about something.
I hope you don't mind my asking, but what brine recipe do you use? I've decided to brine my turkey this year and have been researching different recipes.

Makes me think Rangel is an idiot.

Works great!
Once you understand the procedure, you can do variations. Make sure the cooked brine is COLD before you put in the bird. The kitchen trash can with two clean bags works real well for brining.
BTW - Do not skip the allspice berries and the candied ginger. They are available in the spice isle of your local magamart. Don't skimp on the salt because it is essential to the the flavor transfer into the meat.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Rangel did get the bill passed and all the anti-war lefties would be forced into the military against their will?
Rangel in one fell swoop proves that he and others in the democratic party want to weaken the military by filling it with people that don't want to be there in order to make a political gain for his party. Nice move Charlie. The lefties will love you for it.
BTW - What war was every not started because of a draft?
Hmmm... well, I recall that things got tense in Europe in 1914, but the specter of having their relatives killed brought politicians to their senses.
Oh, wait, that didn't happen.
Well... how about the time JFK and LBJ figured that a few advisors and Special Forces were all we really wanted to send to Southeast Asia?
Oh, wait, that didn't happen either.
Somebody help me out here....
For Christmas or for Thanksgiving?
Put a meat thermometer in the biggest one. You should be good at around 170 degrees internal temp.
That last part is key -- preheat the oven properly. Unless you've put a pizza stone or some bricks in the bottom of the oven to trap heat, wait 10 or 15 minutes after the oven says it is preheated to open it. You want the oven itself preheated, not just the air inside, which will just escape when you open the door anyway.
