Are those of us who so vocally support (mostly liberal) Rudy Giuliani undermining the cause of Free Republic?
Ive loved FR. I have occasionally hated it (usually when I came out on the wrong side in a political debate). I survived the cannibalistic mentality of some Freepers. I have survived the Y2K crowd. Ive been here through the Clinton/Dole race (I only lurked back then) and every presidential race since.
The time has come to wonder if I and those like me who support Rudy Giuliani are wrong for FR. I have to wonder if we are not what Jim envisioned when he created the site.
Im still a conservative. Not on all issues but I support the 2nd Amendment and believe that while Roe vs. Wade was a mistake, a lot of the expansions of Roe vs. Wade that have since taken place have been far worse. I believe Bill Clinton should have been impeached NOT because he had an affair, but because he used the apparatus of the federal government to cover it up. I believe Ronald Reagan was by far the greatest President of my lifetime.
I am very aware of the leftist positions Giuliani holds on many social issues. But to me he is a strong leader who is capable of defeating Hillary. I strongly disagree with those who believe that anybody can beat Hillary. I believe Rudy is the man. If somebody else wins the Republican nomination Im almost sure to vote for them in order to keep Hillary out of office.
The question really is, Do those of us who so vocally support Rudy Giuliani do a disservice to the conservatism that Free Republic is built on?
JimRob is it time to kick us out?
Cut n run?
Almost opus?
I was for rudy until i saw how pro amnesty he was out of his own mouth. Then i switched to romney. That's the defining issue for me right now, as i feel any republican would do fine on the WOT. the feds should be enforcing existing laws, that's the only way to seriously slow down immigration, is to not reward them.
"Suicide by JimRob"?
There are many who believe this should not be a forum to promote a liberal candidate. On the other hand, it makes for good debate.
Only if Giullini supporters are disruptive. All GOP leaders have shortcomings. I don't see anyone who could have held Reagan's jockstrap.
Hell no!
Let Freedom ring, and those that disagree can piss off.
I just said I like Rudy!
Why do you have to be so mean?
No you don't need to leave. However, there will be many of us who will disagree with you about Rudy.
Don't let the Freeper Bullies get to you.
Odd post.
VERY.
It's certainly not time to kick you out - but I can point to some scary invective being hurled by a few of the pro-Giuliani posters (and many anti- posters, too). If there's going to be kicking done, it should be done to some of the people who need anger management therapy, not people who espouse a particular candidate.
I would hope that Giuliani supporters are not kicked off FR. I have had a couple of posts removed here and there that might have been over-the-line when it came to gays and abortions. One time, I posted a phone number to a book store that supposedly kicked out a patron who asked if they had the book "Unfit for Command". I encouraged people to call the number over and over and ask if they had "Unfit for Command". That post, too, was removed - and it should have been - I was instigating harassment and it was wrong to do. I never got angry because in the end, I felt the posts were out of line and should have been removed.
But to remove anyone just because they support a certain candidate - I don't know. I mean, I think Rudy was a great leader as far as NYC goes, but I don't know how well he would do as president. But I would vote for him if the other choice was Hillary - that's for sure. But I don't think it would be right to kick someone off the entire board just because they endorse Rudy.
Yes, he is a liberal when it comes to gay marriage, abortion, and gun control, and that's not a good thing in my opinion - especially abortion as for me, it is one of the most important issues these days. I am not sure where Rudy stands on the illegal immigration issue - I have never really heard him mention anything about it. Which is probably not good, because nothing being said about it usually means they have no interest in fixing the border problem.
Not all conservatives will agree on everything. I still think Pat Buchanan would have been a good President. I still hear Levin and Savage tossing insults at eachother and it does bother me, because I like them both - it's kind of like seeing 2 good friends fighting.
Anyway, I love the Free Republic and I don't think anyone should be tossed off just for supporting a candidate that might not be all that popular with the mainstream conservative movement. That's just my 2 cents.
Im still a conservative. Not on all issues
I am suspect on that issue you are not conservative. Although I am not a Guiliani supporter, I definitely want everyone conservative who has different levels of support or not on issues. Why are you trying to kick people out. I would LOVE to know the issue you are not conservative on and write a thread about kicking people out on that issue. Are you just having a low vibe day or something?
I think this will be like every other primary season -- lot's of carping about which of these pandering politicians deserves the functionary jobs that carry so damn much power.
What I did was go ask some non-activists conservatives who they would choose to be Presidential nominee.
I told them to choose between McCain, Mitt Romney, Rudy, Newt or anyone else they cared to contribute. Three out of three came back with Rudy.
Insofar as being completely wrong on several issues that Reagan conservatives hold dear, Giuliani supporters are wrong.
But kicked off? Don't be such a drama queen.
Besides, if you leave, how on earth do you hope to be set right again?
Insofar as being...
Should be:
Insofar as they are...
