This evening on CNN's "The Situation Room," anchor Paula Zahn hosted a brief discussion on the Iraq War with writers Andrew Sullivan and Christopher Hitchens.
She began with: "Let's bring in a pair of conservatives with distinctly different points of view, Andrew Sullivan and Christopher Hitchens."
But Mr. Hitchens wasn't going to let that introduction pass:
ZAHN: Good to see both of you.
So Christopher, at a time...
CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS, "VANITY FAIR": I'm not a conservative.
ZAHN: Our pleasure.
At a time when the time American population....
HITCHENS: No, no, wait. You didn't get it. I'm not a conservative.
ZAHN: Not a conservative?
HITCHENS: No, thank you.
ZAHN: How would you characterize yourself?
HITCHENS: Well, I have no party affiliation and no ideological one. But I'm no kind of conservative.
ZAHN: All right. Well, let's find more about how you specifically feel about this war.
Ms. Zahn then continued the segment. But one has to wonder how it was that she or her producer or someone at CNN could have believed that Christopher Hitchens was a conservative in the first place. Is it because CNN does such poor fact-checking or is it because CNN staffers would consider a man who's demanded Henry Kissinger be tried for war crimes "a conservative?"
Either way, it reflects very poorly on "the most trusted name in news."
Dang. Now if they want a pair of conservatives, they'll have to go back to using James Carville and Paul Begala.
Reminds me of PMSNBC's political lineup.
Boy, they really are out of it, aren't tehy.
They're becoming unhinged.
Could it be because Hitchens supports the president on the WOT? And we know only "conservatives" would do that! (Sarcasm)

And I could only laugh-out-loud at their categorizations: They were attempting to "frame" the definitions. I'm not at all surprised at Zahn's calling Messrs Hitchens and Andrews "conservative".
Tells me that Paula Zahn is taking her script definitions from lists created and invented by Communists.
Plus she may be thinking of his debate with nutty George Galloway.
Galloway is a traitor to not only England, but innocent people, everywhere, IMHO.
I think those two are probably considered right wing activists by CNN.
Looks like they've turned the corner and won't be coming back any time soon.
Seems to be the criterion. Or maybe it's because Hitch saw the Klintoon Klan for the pure evil it is.
He's a Conservative compared to Legs Zahn!
Pray for W and Our Troops
Well, yeah, OK, that's true. But let's give him credit: he does an absolutely superb Hello Kitty routine.
Then again, so's Bill Press.
lol!
You're easy to please. :)
Before the Oil4Food story broke, I was aware of Galloway's involvement in Iraq.
I put Galloway and Scott Ritter in the same "indecent citizen", "anti-country" category.
Picky, picky.
Olbermann would be a nice fit over at CNN.
