Why I am Not Voting Republican This Fall By William H. Calhoun on Sep 23, 2006

A friend of mine recently was surprised when I told him that I am not voting Republican this fall. “You are one of the most conservative people I know,” he said.

"Exactly,” I said, “and that is precisely why I am not voting Republican.” For me, illegal immigration has been the final straw. And the GOP’s recent decision to pull funding from Randy Graf’s campaign shows the writing on the wall: CONSERVATIVES, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME IN THE GOP. Of course, the GOP will take conservatives’ votes and money, but if a real conservative runs for office, he almost certainly will be shunned.

The GOP historically has been quite liberal. And now, those at the helm are steering it towards its liberal roots. While President Bush and Senator McCain are seeing who can run farther to the left of Ted Kennedy on the issue of immigration, our country is under invasion. Already 20 million illegals have invaded our country, and our president (other than lip service) has done nothing about it. In fact, he exudes a long track record of encouraging the illegal invasion of our country.

In the 1950s, when our country was under invasion, President Eisenhower (via “Operation Wetback") responded with troops, and deported over 1 million illegals in less than a year. Yet President Bush says he is unable. Rather, he is unwilling. If Bush had engaged in this pandering to illegals in the 1950s, he would have been impeached and tried for treason.

In fact, the treason lobby seems to have overtaken the GOP. By 1950s standards, President Bush, Vice-President Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, and Senators McCain, Specter, Brownback, DeWine, and Graham are all guilty of treason. Behind the scenes, they have supported the unconstitutional NAFTA Superhighway, and at every turn have undermined American sovereignty. They have betrayed the Constitution and hard-working Americans so that they can make a fast buck from big business and attempt (unsuccessfully) to court illegal aliens for future political support.

And the GOP rewards such treason. Although Senator DeWine has been ranked by Human Events as one of the ten worst border-security politicians in the country, the GOP still funds him. And in the process, they ceased to fund Randy Graf, a true patriot who actually wants to defend America from this invasion. They take money from the conservative and give it to the liberal. This is the modus operandi of the GOP.

If I am ever able to vote for a true conservative in the GOP (e.g. John Duncan , Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul, or Pat Buchanan) then I shall. Otherwise, I am voting Constitution Party (the real conservative party) or not voting at all.

William H. Calhoun is a writer, conservative, and graduate of the University of Chicago.

When the libs are peeing on your second amendment guarrantees and telling you that terrorism is no threat, then think back upon your protest vote.

I was watching Kinky last night (that sounds bad, lol) and they asked him how he would solve the border problem. he didnt cite his "Five Mexican Generals" proposal, I believe he's admitted that is unlikely to be implemented. Instead, he said "we hafta go after the employers who are breaking the law. First offense, I would slap 'em with a $25,000 fine. Second time, $50,000, and so on."

Good enough for me!

How do you argue against that? American sovereignty is being eaten away.

If enough of us had this outlook, and we had applied it in the last election...John Kerry would be President,
and then wouldn't things be so much better????
You need to consider the alternatives, and use your vote to it's best effect. Don't be a dumbass

Sounds like Calhoun is a "real" conservative who who wants to vote for the likes of Pat Buchanan and if he can't he'll pick up his marbles and go home.

Thankfully Buchanan is already in lala land and this guy isn't far behind him.

Perhap Mr Psuedo Conservative William H. Calhoun might want to consider this. What do you think happens to the Conservatives chances of ever being in power ever again if the Democrats can reimpose the Fairness Doctrine and destroy Talk Radio?

Something for the Political Suicide Club "Conservatives" to keep in mind before spewing forth any more of their "Win by Losing" nonsense.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1703526/posts

When it began broadcasting back in 2004, Air America was supposed to be the great leftist hope, the radio network whose hosts would floor the dominating conservatives on political talk shows, especially Rush Limbaugh, the undisputed champion of the genre.

But things went from bad to worse as the network received low ratings in too few markets and was involved in a scandal because of borrowing money from a nonprofit organization. The network’s chief on-air personality, Al Franken, concedes that cash-flow problems have kept him from being paid.

Having seemingly failed to knock Limbaugh out in the free market, where, oh where will the liberals turn? We already have the answer. If Democrats win control of Congress, the plan of some is to legislate radio time for liberals through reinstituting the Fairness Doctrine and thereby, in all likelihood, silencing Limbaugh and conservative friends. In other words, if speech gets too free to make you happy, bring your heel down on its head.

Let’s have some history here.

The Fairness Doctrine went into effect in 1949 as a regulation of the Federal Communications Commission. It essentially said that stations had to provide opportunities for other sides to be heard if someone said something politically controversial on air. The consequence was a quietude strikingly at variance with this democracy of ours.

Then came the presidency of Ronald Reagan, with its understanding of how governmental controls so often diminish us and its trust in a free people to find their way without the instructions of know-it-all bureaucrats. His administration dropped the regulation along with many others, and guess what? Talk radio began to flower.

You would think believers in our democracy would rejoice in the burst of debate, but many liberals didn’t.

A chief reason was that the most popular hosts of these shows were conservatives. Millions of Americans happen to be conservative in at least some roughhewn way, and they didn’t see their views reflected in the mainstream media. In talk radio, they gained a voice, frequently a rambunctious one but a voice that was subject to correction in the marketplace of ideas. That’s especially true in an era of the Internet, cable TV, satellite radio and other outlets that provide a wider variety of news and opinion than available at any previous time.

The conservative cause was also helped by personalities such as Limbaugh, who comes by his 15 million listeners a week not through accident, but because of extraordinary alertness, quickness of mind and, most of all, a good humor and wit that the pompous among us miss and the leftist ideologues among us despise. He is funnier than Franken, and seriously, folks, Franken is not to be taken seriously on any level. So here come the liberals in Congress to fix things.

Democratic members of the House have already introduced legislation that would restore the Fairness Doctrine in such a way that radio stations carrying Limbaugh at great financial advantage would have to carry someone like Franken for an equal length of time at what would almost certainly be a great financial disadvantage. Hey, the stations might decide, let’s go with rock music - or whatever - because it’s easier and more profitable. If Democrats take back Congress, this anti-speech legislation could have a good chance of enactment, something to keep in mind when you enter a voting booth
