DUmmie FUnnies 09-13-06 (Daily Kos KOmmies Enter The Twilight Zone)

Keith Olbermann, desperate as usual to boost his tiny ratings, turned his 9/11 report into one long attack on President Bush. Keith made this ATTACK, in typical poor taste on the site of the former World Trade Center Towers. Then he added to the tastelessness by making a comparison to The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street episode of the Twilight Zone. Olbermann used that Twilight Zone episode to suggest that our real enemy is our own prejudices despite the fact that the tragedy of 9/11 was caused by very real Islamic terrorists. It was as out of place as using the Maple Street Episode to explain the German attack on Poland in 1939 or by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor. Yes, Keith Olbermann is stuck in his own Twilight Zone but, hey, anything is open season for him when it comes to his all important ratings which remain in the toilet. However, the Daily Kos KOmmies were inspired by Keith's latest ratings boost shtick and joined in by beating the Twilight Zone references to death and even added in a few more shows and movies of their own as you can see in this KOmmie THREAD titled, "Are We Stuck In The Twilight Zone?" So let us now go to a place beyond Time and Space and join the Daily Kos KOmmies in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, making notes from the fifth dimension, is in the [brackets]:

Are We Stuck In The Twilight Zone?

[Absolutely. You are stuck in The Twilight Zone and live in an Alternate Reality which bears no relation to the facts.]

I loved the "Twilight Zone" reference in Keith Olbermann's Special Comment. Specifically, he referenced "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" and the effect of what giving in to paranoia & fear can have on a society...

[This is another Leftist shtick. See, it's not the Islamic terrorists who are causing our problems, it is US due to our own paranoia and fear. Keith Olbermann is also promoting this divorced-from-reality routine as you can see in his following misused quote from The Twilight Zone:]

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts... attitudes... prejudices. To be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicion can destroy, and the thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to The Twilight Zone.

[Sorry, Keith. The WTC attack is a bit different from a the quiet Maple Street. The tools of conquest in this case DID come with bombs and explosions. This is what happened on 9/11 despite your ratings obsessed mind being confined to your own Twilight Zone. Oh and do you actually think that our prejudices and suspicions caused the destruction in the background of your dopey appeal for ratings?]

I grew up on re-runs of "Twilight Zone" episodes that came on after school as a small child. I think some of the lessons learned from those episodes informed my political values. So "submitted for your approval", I thought I would go back through and see how many episodes comment on our current political situation...

[I think the Twilight Zone episode about the spinner of tall tales could be applied to Keigh Olbermann.]

It's A Good Life

This story has been seen as a metaphor for political leaders who rule out of ignorance & can't stand to be told that they're wrong, and the people who acquiesce to their wishes...

[Great description of Hillary.]

The Eye Of The Beholder

This episode deals with Janet Tyler. Her head is wrapped in gauze because she is undergoing experimental treatment to deal with a hideous deformity that has made her an outcast from the rest of society. All she wants is to be normal, in order to conform to everyone else. Also, the state has deemed different to be dangerous which must be "cut out like a cancerous growth."

[Hmmm.... Just like a lot of liberals have deemed conservatives to be dangerous and must be "cut out like a cancerous growth."]

A Quality Of Mercy

The story deals with a young American Lieutenant given his first command of a platoon of battle weary soldiers in the Philippines at the closing days of World War II. Eager to storm into combat & make a name for himself, Lieutenant Katell wants to order an assault on sick & starving Japanese soldiers holed up in a nearby cave. One of the platoon's Sargeants pleads with him not to do it, since the cave & soldiers can be bypassed & avoided, but Katell is adamant to execute his plan. Katell is then somehow pulled away & finds himself on Corregidor during 1942, where he's a Japanese Lieutenant named Yamuri. His Japanese Captain orders him to attack sick & starving American soldiers holed up in a cave. Katell/Yamuri pleads with the Japanese Captain not to attack the cave, but it's in vain. Katell is then somehow pulled back to the Phillipines as himself to find the United States had attacked Hiroshima & his platoon has been ordered to fall back. He's relieved that he didn't attack the cave with Japanese soldiers.

[And I see you posted a picture of Abu Gharaib to go with this. Have you heard the latest? The prisoners are BEGGING for the Americans to take control of that prison again.]

He's Alive

This one deals with Peter Vollmer. He's a faltering leader of a neo-nazi organization that is preaching against immigrants & how they take jobs away from Americans. One night he's visited by the ghost of Adolf Hitler, who offers to help him. This leads to a series of events that sees the rise & fall of Vollmer.

[Were those immigrants illegal? If not, then this allegory doesn't apply. Oh, and I'm surprised you didn't have Hitler morph into Bush. And now to read from the misinterpreted Twilight Zone references from the other KOmmies...]

I was actually thinking about this last night and watching some old episodes on Youtube that I remembered vaguely from when I was a kid. I often feel like our entire political discourse has gone into the twilight zone.

[The leftwing blogosphere long ago entered the Twilight Zone.]

Don't forget the one about the people on the bus that ended up in a diner because a storm took the bridge out.

[Better check to see if Bush has a third eye.]

I honestly can't say for sure which images are from reality or fiction.

[Spoken like a true liberal!]

We are inside the movie V for Vendetta, y'all. In case you haven't seen it yet. Check it out on DVD and feel the eerie similarities. Time for the Revolution, friends. Take a tip from V and Schedule it on TV so the rest of the country will know about it and maybe join up.

[So did you get your Guy Fawkes costume yet?]

It's a COOKBOOK! Love that one. 'Course when it comes to evil Republicans (there are some decent ones you know) like Cheney, they'd just like to cage us up and then let us loose to shoot us for "sport".

[And the name of that cookbook is "To Serve Crow."]

The "He's Alive" guy looks like Bush. Is that a young Dennis Hopper? In any case, a Bush lookalike with a swatstika, standing next to a portrait of Hitler... it all looks very natural.

[I KNEW they would eventually make that obligatory Bush/Hitler comparison.]

Another good episode was "To Serve Man." Not sure how that could be made into an analogy about Bush.

[Don't worry. I have faith in your ability to completely twist it out of shape to force an strained anology about Bush.]

Yes. We Are Living in the Twilight Zone. Yes, and we have been there as long as I have been alive. One of our recent presidents was a man named Ronald Reagan, who was once a movie star who played cowboys and such. He brought freedom to lots of brown people in Latin America and Southern Africa by helping kill them. It's hard to believe it, but it's true.

[It's hard to believe because it's NOT true.]

I think that Keith Olbermann has learned from Serling as well as from Morrow. By cloaking his show in the lightweight moments (Oddball, Worst Person, Keeping Tabs, the moments with Michael Musto), he can get away with the serious moments...and on a day that is dedicated to serious, such as 9/11, he can be that much more powerful in an era of mostly fluff...

[Olbermann's show is permanently cloaked in lightweight moments since it is basically one long plea for better ratings.]

Specifically, he referenced "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" and the effect of what giving in to paranoia & fear can have on a society...

This line is all you need to know about DUmmies and the WOT. No, really, it's ALL you need to know. Allow me to explain.

In the episode, rumors of an alien invasion cause everyone in a small town to be on edge. The lights go out in the neighborhood, except in one house. Everyone thinks THAT family is in cahoots with the invading aliens, who have yet to arrive. More occurences happen, making the scared people think one, then another neighbor, is working with the aliens, and chaos results.

The DUmmie explains that the episode reference is about what paranoia and fear can do to a society. His point is that these are meaningless events which others construe as being part of the enemy plan.

But he doesn't even understand the analogy he's chosen. See, at the very end of the episode, it's shown that there ARE alien invaders, and they're using the chaos created with a few simple electrical tricks to CAUSE this paranoia.

The irony here is that WE could use the same story to illustrate the genuine threat of terrorism, which so far isn't about massive invasions but events here and there which INSPIRE TERROR.

The frickin moron DUmmie thinks he's being so damned intelligent, and he doesn't even understand he's making our point for us--there ARE invaders...but because they don't arrive in massive fleets raining destruction down on us all at once, DUmmies can pretend it's not happening.

If you didn't know this already, this DU thread is all the proof you need that DUmmies are IDIOTS.

This MUST be Bush, DUmmie Keith--he's always preaching against immigrants.

Does Keith Olberman do helium, or just hold his breath a lot?

Prediction: Olberforehead will be cancelled, and DU and KOS will be filled with hundreds of posts beginning: "Democracy died today..."

Who'll bet against me?! (crickets)

I can no longer watch anything on MSNBC since our complex kicked Charter to the curb and signed a contract with Comcast. Their basic cable includes Fox News and CNN and CNBC, along with C-SPAN and C-SPAN2, but NO MSNBC, so I can no longer watch Olbermann rant.

I think that Keith Olbermann has learned from Franken as well as from Garofolo. By making his show for the leftwing moonbats, he can be that much more powerful, as with Err America's stuff.

I'm a Twilight Zone junkie, grew up watching the originals, and have a DVD box set sitting next to my TV.
The Eye of the Beholder, in case anyone is Twilight Zone defecient, dealt with a woman who wanted to make herself less attractive, to fit in.
I will NEVER forget the end of that one.
I have no favorite episode, although I see from some of these posts, that a lot of us remember how good this TV show was.
I guess if you made me pick one, it would be Burgess Meredeth, in Time Enough At Last, or the sci-fi thriller, To Serve Man.
or maybe Vic Morrow in the Nazi episode, or maybe the one with William Shatner and the gremlin, or the one where what's his name from Adam-12, keeps chasing himself around the bus station, or the one where the Devil is being kept in a monastary, or...hell, now I have to go watch them all again...
There goes my night.

Just DAMN!!!!
