Clinton's Lawyers Say Iger Assured "Appropriate Edits" And Hammer Film As "Disgraceful"

In New Letter, Bill Clinton's Lawyers Say Iger Assured Them Of "Appropriate Edits" And Hammer Film As "Disgraceful"
By Greg Sargent

After watching the first installment of "The Path to 9/11," Bill Clinton's lawyers have written another blistering letter to Disney chief Robert Iger. In the letter -- which we've obtained -- Clinton lawyers Bruce Lindsey and Douglas Band write that they actually spoke to Iger twice and that Iger assured them that he was "personally taking the responsibility to ensure that appropriate edits to the film would be made."

But, the lawyers add: "Having now seen the first night of this fiction, it is clear that the edits made to the film did not address the factual errors that we brought to your attention." The letter concludes that the film does "a disservice to the American people" and is "disgraceful." Full text after the jump.

The full text:

September 10, 2006

Dear Bob,

We are deeply disappointed that ABC and the Disney Corporation chose to air "The Path to 9/11." The final product was fraught with error and contained contrived scenes that are directly contradicted by the findings of the 9/11 Commission Report. The film has undoubtedly cemented in millions of viewers' minds a false impression of critical historical events.

While there is not enough room here to fully document the fiction in your film, attached to this letter is a detailed fact sheet listing the numerous inaccuracies in the film according to the 9/11 Commission.

Nine days ago, we wrote to you asking simply that the miniseries tell the truth, as researched extensively and definitively by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission. We asked that your network not present outright fiction as historical fact to the American public. In fact, we took pains to detail sequences in the movie that were plainly invented, based upon the version of the film that was shown to television critics and distributed to many conservative commentators. During our two recent conversations, you assured us that you were personally taking the responsibility to ensure that appropriate edits to the film would be made. Publicly, ABC said that the editing process was ongoing and that it was irresponsible" to condemn the film before seeing the finished product.

Having now seen the first night of this fiction, it is clear that the edits made to the film did not address the factual errors that we brought to your attention. "The Path to 9/11" flagrantly ignored the facts as reported by the 9/11 Commission and invented its own version of history. The result, in our judgment, is irreparable damage to the Commission's work. More importantly, it is a disservice to the American people.

That the film directly contradicts the findings of the 9/11 Commission is troubling. That it defames dedicated public officials is tragic. But the fact that it misleads millions of people about the most tragic and consequential event in recent history is disgraceful.

Sincerely,

Bruce R. Lindsey
Chief Executive Officer
William J. Clinton Foundation

Douglas J. Band
Counselor to President Clinton
Office of William Jefferson Clinton

Poor Bill. The world is still all about damage control on his reputation. As it will be, for the rest of his life.

And there is very good reason why that damage control is so necessary.

Yes. And the outcry would be tremendous. Clinton is such a pansy.

Have you seen any stills from this film? It's just begging. Seriously. It's amazing. And my prediction is we won't hear boo from the White House.

I have a question here. Why are they suggesting that the 9/11 commission report is the only place to get facts on 9/11?

This alone tells me that the commission report was politicized and they are continuing to politicize the events of 9/11 inspite of all the people that lived during the event.

One other comment on the docudrama. I find it interesting that "The path to 9/11 started with a terrorist event. What lead to that event? The show started in the middle. The 9/11 report didn't even go back that far in time in it's investigation if I am remembering correctly.

They have known all along that Bill clinton was thenabler of 911, and now they are sticking him big. Clinton's leagcy is cooked. As always, the truth opts.

Well if this is true there is TONS of scandal material and corruption by the Clintons that was covered up by the MSM (that we here know about ) that the general public never heard about that can be used to bring them down so fast they won't know what hit them .

That's because our president understands the idea of 'free speech'.

With a country full of 'insane in the membrane' liberals who wish for and chant for his death everyday, I'm sure our president has developed an immunity to the fear of assassination, and that this movie will cause him to be little more than amused in a Texas 'that all ya got?' kind of way.

In the end, I suspect that those who love him fear for his safety more than he himself does.

Exactly...and has now been shown that even the 9/11 Commission report is flawed. Now mention of Gorelick's Wall; and no mention of Able Danger. Oops!

It is the nut jobs that that kind of movie can trigger that I worry about

Oh, we can only HOPE!

I would think there could be nothing better than having the Clinton administration actions hashed out endlessly on Court TV.

Bring it on! I wish these guys would put their money where their fat mouths are and sue! Please! Please!

Just goes to show you that they are oblivious to Clinton's failings.

The show didn't change a single mind nor will future shows.
I think the percentage of those on the fence is tiny anymore. People have their minds made up no matter what.

I've given up trying to argue with the few lefty friends I have which includes one family member. They're convinced that the world is ending because of Bush and yearn for the wonderful days under the greatest president who ever lived, Bill Clinton. Trying to reason with them is impossible. They absolutely MUST be defeated at the polls. Getting out the vote is more important that fighting terrorists for the next few months.

I have to say that while very little the Dems do these days surprises me, threatening ABCs FCC license shocked the heck out of me. The whining is predictable. Heavy handedly ignoring the first amendment is not.

ABC 9/11 Docudrama's Right-Wing Roots (Free Republic Mentioned)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1699965/posts

Excerpt: "...This is the network within the ABC network. Its godfather is far-right activist David Horowitz, who has worked for more than a decade to establish a right-wing presence in Hollywood and to discredit mainstream film and TV production..."

You're spot-on IMO. They are TERRIFIED and it's about time!

One of the characteristics of a cult is they have to tell their people what to believe [their version of the truth]...since they make it up themselves. It is not available through independent study and research. That is why the sheep are so often isolated from the world.

I feel their concern for the first time I felt that way was when Der Schlickmeister "didn't have sex with that woman" and the second time I felt that way was when Der Schlickmeister lied to the Grand Jury.

Wonder what Joe Lieberman would have to say about your comment.

Jews who I know, worked with and under in the past have always been democrats, although some not as rigid as others.

It's always surprised me but I think I can understand that the far right has turned them off. Some far righters are as scary as Islamists in their rigid views and given the opportunity would ensure Jews would not be in the mainstream of our society or any aspect of it.

The far left are better liars so manage to trick jews into believing they're sincere while at the same time working to undermine Israel and Jews everywhere.

If I were a Jew I wouldn't support either party unless that party proved it's support with action rather than words. In today's case the GOP is the party that will not abandon Israel and will continue to support all U.S. citizen's right to practice their religion.

slick should get on his knees and thank the Lord that the film didn't go into more detail regarding his responsibility for the situation his administration put us in relative to terrorism.

Slick should get on his knees and thank the Manning bros.

"The whining is predictable. Heavy handedly ignoring the first amendment is not."

We'll see how this translates at the election box.

All of this is pure gold for Republican and Independent campaigners.

Rather amusing this "fiction" remark. Are we then to conclude that the sacred 911 Commission report was "fiction" as well, since the writer took most of the film from it?

Look for ABC to now place a disclaimer on all their programming telling which are fiction and which are not.

The 9-11 Omission Commission Report was more "Omission" than "fiction" IMHO.
