There used to be a TV commercial for a stock brokerage named E.F. Hutton. Their tag-line motto was, "When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen."
The segway here is to talk about Ed Mahmoud's gift for weather forecasting. Last year, more than a week before Hurricane Katrina made landfall Ed made this very startling forecast:
POSSIBLE COMPLETE DESTRUCTION OF THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS NEXT WEEK (Lets hope not, we just got our new well online just West of MSY and inside Bonne Carret spillway), GAS PRICES COULD RISE $0.25 OR MORE NEXT 10 DAYS!....The possible Gulf action may be named "Katrina", because this developing system in the Bay of Campeche may get the name "Jose" before moving into Mexico.
Not long ago, Ed gave another very startling forecast at GCP (#43)
END OF MID-ATLANTIC AS WE KNOW IT UPDATE...I think this is the one, a repeat of the 1938 New York Cat 3, but at more than a week away, cant quite be 100% certain yet.

So Eastern Penna's going to become oceanfront property, after NYC and Joisey ('what exit?') are washed away? Oy!
Unfortunately for him, there are no named storms with in a week of the U.S. mainland.
Based on what? The corns on his big toe?
that's the point. Katrina hadn't been named when he made that forecast.
gonna start building my pier now
I'm already framing-it-up, s_f, and we're pouring concrete on Monday...
Take your world for it; haven't checked NOAA lately...
I am at the thinking about it point, I know I want a pier, but then I am waiting on advice from Nagin
I was thinking the water logged bus barns would provide materials, also gathering all the old junk vehicles I can and parking in lowest areas around, FEMA pays good for family cars
Or re-paint them white, turn them into mobile family trailers at $50k each. FEMA'd junp on that, in a heartbeat, IIRC.
He's likely a crackpot, but about ten days out...
Okay, let me rephrase that. TD #6 isn't within a week of the U.S. mainland either.
Great, I'm leaving New Mexico ( I live at 7500') to visit my family in Ocean City Maryland in two days.
Bring your swimming trunks and that inner tube, T.
"I think this is the one, a repeat of the 1938 New York Cat 3, but at more than a week away, cant quite be 100% certain yet."
I don't read that to indicate it is a week away. I read it to that it is not less than one week away. But more than one week.
An important distinction: someone says this guy forecast what became Katrina and the damage it did to New Orleans. Hindsight is perfect, and retroactively forged "predictions" are remarkably accurate. Show me some proof.
