Four separate blasts on Turkey's popular coastal region and in Istanbul injured at least 22 people, state news agency Anatolian reported.

Anatolian said three blasts occurred near the southern coastal area of Marmaris and another one in Istanbul.

Private NTV television channel earlier reported 21 people were injured. There were no immediate claims of responsibility and the authorities were not immediately available for comment.

Kurdish separatists, leftists and Islamic militants have carried out bomb attacks in Turkey in the past.

Speaking just after midnight, an FCO spokeswoman said all the injured were in hospital.

She initially said: "There have been three explosions in the resort of Marmaris, Turkey and 10 British nationals have been injured and are in hospital. We have consular staff on the ground.

"We have no further details in terms on the cause of the explosions or the location."

Asked if the 10 injured Britons were holidaymakers, she added: "I think that would be the assumption because it is a holiday resort but I would imagine there would be British nationals living in the area as well."

Witnesses in Marmaris said that at least one of the explosions appeared to be on dolmuses - small vans that act as short-range buses in Turkey.

One of the explosions was described as being near a fast food restaurant and another near an airline office.

The Turks have been victims of terrorist attacks for decades, themselves. Prayers up for all concerned...

Could be part of the terrorists' thinking, but they've already got grudges against Turkey because it is far too modern and westernized for their tastes. Add in the fact that they hit some infidel tourists, and you can see why those targets were chosen.
