A Mexican Woman Should Have Died Tonight

Posted on 08/14/2006 8:09:08 PM PDT by baltodog

A maroon-colored Ford Taurus was stolen in Wichita, KS, this afternoon. It was stolen in the vicinity of 19th and Arkansas.

Anyone familiar with part of Wichita knows that this area in where the majority of Mexican immigrants live.

The Taurus ended up in the parking lot of St. Patrick's Church/School. The driver of the stolen Taurus was apparently doing donuts, peeling out, and generally showing off for onlookers.

The owner of the Taurus was a Mexican woman who appeared to be in her mid-30's.

According to police, she got into the passenger side of late model Mercury Cougar, driven by a man who was intent on retrieving the stolen Taurus.

The driver of the Cougar sped directly into traffic on Arkansas Street, perpendicular to traffic.

...I was travelling south on Arkansas at the time, and the Cougar attempted to violate the laws of physics by occupying the space as my Bronco...

I collided with the Cougar as my right foot made contact with the brake pedal...

Prior to the collision, I saw the face of a woman in the front passenger seat, looking out her window, in abject terror of me...this was a fleeting moment that lasted less than a second.

My Bronco hit the Cougar, full-force, broadside -- a perfect T-Bone -- and then bounced backwards. During the actual collision, I KNEW she was dead...I KNEW she was going to die, that THIS was how she was going to die, and regardless of fault, I was going to kill her.

I watched as the front of my Bronco literally swallowed the Cougar, whole.

The next thing I realized is that the driver was jumping from the driver's side, on foot, after the Taurus. The female passenger climbed from the drivers' side, with severe glass cuts on her right arm.

I asked her, "Habla English?"...to which she answered no. I told her to sit next to a tree, then had my wife (who was not injured, except for seat-belt burns) stay with her.

The police and ambulance promptly arrived.

The driver was insured, he admitted fault, etc.

But I gotta say this: I did not care about immigration status, insurance, legality of the driver.

I just know she SHOULD have died. The passenger side of the Cougar is totalled. Demolished. Squashed. Gone.

Just thought I'd share this with you...don't know why...

There were times I should have/or could have died and didn't. Praise God Satan does not get his way all of the time.

Oh, yeah, I'm fine...Bronco's hurt a little bit...radiator's kind of "folded" in half (but not leaking), bumper is bent, the grille is busted, and driver's side fender is crunched...

...but you know what?...

Blinkers, headlights, brakes, etc all intact...I will drive it to work in the morning. 1986 Bronco II. 149,000 miles.

So here it comes guys....get ready to flame....

...don't forget she was in a COUGAR....

Fords Rock...

Car Angels. They CAN defy the laws of physics. Still, it's a tough assignment that requires precision timing skills.

Witnessing a miracle is almost as good as being the living recipient of one.

I lived in that area, just off of 21st Street, until I was 12 years old. That was in the early fifties. It was the Mexican-American area even then.

He was caught soon afterwards...

Memo to self: Don't steal car in area where everyone knows me.

In retrospect (it is now 24 hrs later)...I certainly have no problem faulting someone for pulling directly in front of me, when I have the right-of-way.

...but I cannot fault the guy for attempting to chase down the bandit who stole his car. I'd like to think that I'd have done the same thing...
