The Democratic National Committee issued a press release expressing its disappointment at congress's refusal to pass a new minimum wage. "The Republican approach to economic policy assumes that a growing economy will enrich everyone," said the press release. "This is false. The Republican low-tax approach only rewards those who work and invest. Their message to the dependent members of our society is a blunt 'get off your ass and get a job.' We say this is too harsh. We want voters to know that Democrats can be counted on to take care of everyone."
Specifically addressing the minimum wage issue the press release continued: "We Democrats want Americans to know that if our party gains a majority in congress they can be assured that we will work to guarantee that every American earns the minimum wage. If it takes an increase in taxes to accomplish this, our party will not hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to achieve the equal income distribution that justice and common decency demands."
The statement concluded: "Republicans would have people believe that everyone desires to be rich and that it is possible to grow the economy in an effort to bring this about. This is deluded and misguided. We believe that it is not possible for everyone to be rich, but it is possible for everyone to be equal. We are willing to sacrifice the false promise of prosperity for the surer reality of equality. Greater peace and happiness for the average American will spring from the certain knowledge that our program aims to prevent their neighbors from becoming better off than they are."

And this is supposed to be bad? Is this a press release from the DNC or the RNC?
It's satire. (But as with all good satire, there is a bunch of truth in it.)
It wasn't satire when the RINO MI state house and senate just passed a wage hike - then signed by my socialist gubner with the worst economy in the nation. Kiss more jobs bye-bye.
Who actually gets paid only minumum wage?
I live in a major metro area and even the fast food places are paying more than minumum wage.
The minimum wage ends up affecting prices everywhere. Few people are going to take unpleasant jobs for minimum wage when more pleasant ones are available. Even when there aren't official "pegs" (exist in union contracts), in many fields baseline wages are effectively pegged to be a certain amount above minimum in order to attract workers.
I wish people would acknowledge the real effect of the minimum wage: to make unemployable people whose skills don't justify paying that much; to the extent that other people's wages go up, it's a result of the less-skilled workers being removed from the market.
Thomas Sowell, and Walter Williams both seem to do at least one column a year stating just what you posted, however, this argument is never understood by those who have no desire to understand basic economics, and thus only made by those who oppose the raising of the min. wage. This arument also never seems to be made by politicians when they are asked by interviewers who support raising the minimum wage.
The minimum-wage should be repealed, including at the state and local level.
