Dixie Chicks Diss (not the President) but Patriots! See the video here...
Hot Air ^ | 06.19.2006 | Michelle Malkin

Michelle Malkin rips the Dixie Chicks a whole new one.(h/t MuscleHead) I had not heard the remark that Natalie Maines made in the London Telegraph, but apparently this chick never learns.

"A lot of pandering started going on, and you'd see soldiers and the American flag in every video. It became a sickening display of ultra-patriotism."

"The entire country may disagree with me, but I don't understand the necessity for patriotism," Maines resumes, through gritted teeth. "Why do you have to be a patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country... I don't see why people care about patriotism."

This time instead of insulting the President she insults all patriotic Americans of any political stripe - a s t o u n d i n g!

You can like where you live and like your life

Try living your little “live and let live philosophy” in North Korea, Sudan, or China, you stupid fat cow, and maybe some clue as to the reasons for patriotism will pop into your head.

Have another bonbon, dingbat.

She's going down the "Citizen of the world" hole, methinks.

It's also funny (as Michelle points out) that while she sees no need for patriotism, don't you dare question hers.

Liberal double standard, yet again.

I don't suppose the fool will have to worry about patriotism. Or record sales. Or concert sales. Or any respect from actual Americans.

She has the rest of her life to think about how she threw her career away. I hope she thinks about it--and kicks herself--every day. Assuming, that is, that she ever gets smart enough to understand what she did to herself.

It's gonna be hard on a lot of Gomers to realize that many adults have no idea who the Dixie Chicks are and care not one fig whatever it is they might think.

These endless news flashes about some hayseed hicks and their notions about the world are totally wasted on the civilized world.

When will the other two dump her?

Watch the video. I got the impression that they're on the same page as her.

Dear Ms. Maines,

Perhaps because you are a fascist at heart you don't realize what American patriotism really is. It isn't the love of the land, rather it's a love of the ideals embodied by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution that assert that freedom is God given, and can't be given by government, only taken away by government.

Now, I wouldn't expect a peabrain like yourself to be able to wrap your mind around that concept, but at some risk I'll throw out another. The people of this country, by and large, are from somewhere else. The risked much to come here to specifically be free of tyranny and oppression. They almost universally understand the concept of being born free and have unleashed the greatest wave of innovations and inventions ever seen. The US has given more to the world than the whole of the earth for it's entire history before. The airplane, practical light bulb, Internet, and many other things I'm sure you use every day were created in the US.

If your thick little head can understand the universality of the US then maybe you can start to find out why Europe and Japan are what they are today. Life, my dear dolt, isn't a zero sum game, which is the major mistake dunderheads like you seem to make.

Finally, I think it's sad that you seem to have found a soapbox to spew ignorant BS from. I assume it's that daddy was the manager of your little group and gave you a birthday present. However, that doesn't negate your 5th grade education.

Somehow I just don't think Fat Nat and these other so-called women will ever get the hang of the freedom of speech thing.

Natale Maines Jabbar reminds me of a line from an old song by the Kingston Trio, The Merry Minuet. The line says and I don't like anybody very much....!!!!. She's personifying the line and the world is reciprocating their feelings toward her....

In some ways she makes a very good point patriotism is often linked with nationalism and in the case of the Iraq war patriotism was linked with an excessive amount of nationalistic fervor. Propaganda laced songs from country artists and others I think contributed very much to the lack of discussion inside our own country regarding the war.

But propaganda laced songs ARE a form of discussion. And they are a great way for someone who feels passionately about something to get their message heard. The left has been doing it (quite successfully) since the hippie 60's.

Incorrect. Propaganda is not a form of discussion it is a form of deception. All it does is invoke an emotion and offers no substantial logic or reasoning against which to argue. Just like Jingoism it is very hard to argue against something like "do you support our troops?"

The problem isn't with the left or the right using propaganda laced songs, the problem lays in the fact that they hurt actual democracy by muddying the actual discusssion.

You have to believe that it was their handlers who thought bringing up the past would be a good idea. In their world, everybody is against the war. So maybe they thought it would be good to remind everyone they were on the cutting edge. Too bad for them that perception and reality aren't the same thing

Welll, their handlers are idiots, if they don't know their audience! Oh well, they are probably well paid idiots.
